Reynolds said with a friendly smile, “Loraine, we’ve known each other for years. We wouldn’t be so
tough on you if it weren’t for the scandal. But you’ve damaged the company’s interests, so an
explanation is necessary. Gossip can be damaging. You know that you can’t just invite your friend to
bid for the project, right?”
