Chapter 10
CEO Huang had arrived!
A line of five luxury cars pulled up, with a Bentley leading the procession, an impressive sight that commanded attention.
In Donghai, Huang Yuming was a name synonymous with power and influence. Known for his vast empire of businesses, he was frequently listed among the top three wealthiest men in the region. What made his story even more remarkable was that he had risen from rags to riches in less than five years—a meteoric rise that left many astounded. Anyone fortunate enough to collaborate with him was almost guaranteed to make a profit.
Lin Group had invested significant resources into this project, and Lin Yuzhen herself had poured her heart and soul into it for the past six months. She had worked tirelessly, often staying late into the night to ensure every detail was perfected. Now, everything was ready, and all that remained was for the contract to be signed.
But there was a twist no one had expected. Huang Yuming, known for his notorious temper, had personally come to Lin Group to finalize the deal. This was unprecedented. No one could remember the last time Huang had visited a company in person for such an occasion.
“CEO Huang!”
Lin Qiang was already at the entrance, waiting eagerly. As soon as Huang Yuming’s car came to a stop, he hurried forward with an exaggerated smile. “Welcome, welcome!”
Huang Yuming nodded with a slight acknowledgment and surveyed the scene.
“Where’s Miss Lin Yuzhen?” he asked, his voice calm but direct.
Lin Qiang had not informed Lin Yuzhen about Huang Yuming’s visit. Instead, he had gathered all the senior management to stand outside in the cold, waiting.
“Oh, Yuzhen is a little tied up and can’t join you right now,” Lin Qiang said, his tone feigning humility. “I’m here to receive you on her behalf.”
He wore an expression that could only be described as pitiful, trying to convey just how difficult it was for him to take on this task.
The directors, standing nearby, couldn’t contain their growing frustration. Lin Yuzhen was “busy”? Busy with what? She didn’t seem to have any pressing tasks—she had been spending her time in her lavish office, alone with her husband. It was infuriating to them that they had to stand out in the cold while she remained comfortably inside.
Some of them exchanged knowing looks. “So the rumors were true,” one murmured. “There’s something going on between Lin Yuzhen and CEO Huang.”
Others whispered angrily, “It’s easy for a woman to get ahead, isn’t it? A little charm, and suddenly she’s got it all. We work our butts off, and where does it get us?”
“Lin Yuzhen has completely taken advantage of her position,” another grumbled. “She thinks she owns the Lin Group.”
The atmosphere was thick with resentment, and Lin Qiang was expecting Huang Yuming to become angry. After all, it seemed absurd that a woman like Lin Yuzhen, with no apparent qualifications, could use her connections with the CEO to behave so arrogantly.
But to everyone’s surprise, Huang Yuming merely nodded slightly and gave no indication of being bothered. In fact, he seemed unphased by Lin Yuzhen’s absence.
“It’s fine,” Huang Yuming said, his expression unreadable. “I understand. I’m not here for formalities.”
His calm demeanor only fueled the directors’ suspicions. They were certain that something was amiss between Lin Yuzhen and the CEO. The rumor mill began to churn faster.
“Please, follow me,” Lin Qiang said quickly, motioning for Huang Yuming to enter.
The group moved towards the building, with Lin Qiang in the lead, his demeanor still exaggeratedly respectful. He spoke at length about Lin Group’s history and achievements, flattering Huang Yuming at every turn. He was well-versed in this kind of flattery, and it was clear he intended to impress the CEO.
But Huang Yuming wasn’t paying much attention. His mind seemed elsewhere.
Soon, they reached the office floor and entered the elevator. The news spread like wildfire through the company. Everyone was talking about it. The infamous CEO Huang had come personally to sign the contract with Lin Group, but Lin Yuzhen hadn’t even bothered to show up. She had left it all to her uncle and the senior management to endure the cold while she remained behind closed doors. The employees couldn’t believe it.
“She’s really gone too far this time!” one muttered.
“Who does she think she is? Just because she’s pretty and knows a powerful man, she thinks she can treat everyone like this?”
The whispers grew louder, and as the employees walked past Lin Yuzhen’s office, some even spat on the floor.
The feeling of animosity towards her was palpable. Lin Yuzhen had crossed a line, and it seemed that her time at Lin Group was running out. She had alienated not only her colleagues but the entire company.
Meanwhile, Lin Qiang, feeling a sense of triumph, continued to lead the way to the meeting room. He was convinced that the day would end with Lin Yuzhen being publicly shamed.
But Huang Yuming seemed to have other plans.
“CEO Huang, the meeting room is this way,” Lin Qiang said, still smiling.
However, Huang Yuming stopped him with a slight wave.
“No, no. I can’t allow Miss Lin to come out here. I’ll go to her.”
Lin Qiang froze, taken aback.
The directors exchanged confused glances. What was happening? Was CEO Huang angry with Lin Yuzhen for not greeting him? Was he mocking her? Or was there something more between them than anyone realized?
Huang Yuming, however, was not joking. His expression turned serious as he glanced at Lin Qiang.
“Where is Miss Lin?” he asked, impatience in his voice.
Lin Qiang was visibly flustered.
“CEO Huang, please, Miss Lin is young and still learning,” he stammered. “She’s not… I’m sure she didn’t mean to offend you.”
Lin Qiang’s attempts to downplay the situation were failing. Huang Yuming wasn’t buying it.
“Take me to her,” Huang Yuming said firmly.
Lin Qiang motioned to one of the executives, who immediately stepped forward.
“Please follow me, CEO Huang,” the director said, his voice strained.
As Huang Yuming moved towards Lin Yuzhen’s office, the tension was palpable. The employees followed behind, their eyes wide with disbelief. They couldn’t fathom what was happening. The moment Lin Yuzhen had been dreading was about to unfold.
Inside her office, Lin Yuzhen sat uneasily. Despite the grandeur of her surroundings, she couldn’t shake the feeling that something was wrong. The lavish office felt like a gilded cage, and her unease grew as she thought about her uncle’s strange behavior.
“Jiang Ning, do you think my uncle is up to something?” she asked, her voice tinged with concern.
Jiang Ning, who had been sitting calmly on the sofa, looked at her and nodded slightly.
“There is something wrong,” he said quietly.
Lin Yuzhen frowned, looking around at the opulence of the office. “This office… it’s just too much, isn’t it?”
Jiang Ning gave a nonchalant shrug. “If this standard of luxury isn’t enough for you, then what are your expectations?”
Before Lin Yuzhen could respond, a knock sounded at the door.
“Please come in,” she called.
The director who had been leading the group earlier entered, his face a mask of disapproval. He had clearly been annoyed by Lin Yuzhen’s absence, and his resentment showed.
“CEO Huang, Miss Lin is inside. I… I’m afraid I’m not at the level to go in,” he said, his tone dripping with sarcasm.
But Huang Yuming was not at all phased. He simply raised an eyebrow at the director and replied, “You’re right. You’re not at a level high enough.”
The director stood, stunned, unsure of what to make of Huang Yuming’s response. But the CEO’s demeanor changed in an instant. His face softened, and he gave a slight bow as he stepped forward with a smile.
“Miss Lin, please forgive me for disturbing you,” he said, his tone respectful, almost reverent. “I hope I haven’t caused any inconvenience.”
The director’s jaw dropped. Lin Qiang, too, was frozen in shock. The employees who had followed behind were left speechless.
What… What was going on? Why was CEO Huang behaving like this?
