Chapter 16
Sumei’s voice cracked as she spoke. She never imagined that a simple withdrawal could lead to such a dangerous and humiliating situation. She was trembling, her hands bound and her face flushed with embarrassment and helplessness.
“I want to call my daughter,” she repeated, her voice pleading.
The general manager scoffed and stepped closer, his disgust evident in his eyes. “Call whoever you want. It won’t change anything. You’re going to be in serious trouble. You think anyone can own a card like that without being under suspicion?”
He leaned in close, still holding her by the hair, as if to add insult to injury.
The teller, still visibly shaking from the close call, was watching the scene unfold with a sense of triumph. “This is what happens when people think they can get away with things that don’t belong to them.”
Sumei’s eyes filled with tears. She didn’t know what else to say or do. She had never been in this kind of situation before. The humiliation, the confusion, the fear—it was all too much.
“Please… I’m begging you. Let me call my daughter.” Sumei’s voice was almost a whisper now, filled with vulnerability.
At that moment, the door to the office suddenly flew open with a loud bang. The general manager and the teller froze in shock.
Jiang Ning entered, his presence commanding and unyielding. His sharp eyes scanned the room, locking onto Sumei first. Without hesitation, he stepped forward, his calm demeanor a stark contrast to the chaos in the room.
“Let her go,” Jiang Ning said, his voice low but filled with an undeniable authority.
The general manager, still in shock, hesitated for a moment before trying to regain some composure. “Who are you? This is a private matter, stay out of it!”
Jiang Ning didn’t flinch. “I said, let her go.”
Without a word, he stepped closer, and in one smooth motion, he grabbed the general manager by the collar and yanked him forward, lifting him off the ground with ease. The man’s face turned pale as he struggled to breathe.
“Do you know who I am?” Jiang Ning’s voice was calm, but his grip tightened. “I suggest you release her. Now.”
The teller, now visibly panicking, took a few steps back, realizing she had made a grave mistake. The situation was spiraling out of control faster than she could process.
Sumei, still shaking, looked up at Jiang Ning with wide eyes, her tears not stopping. She couldn’t believe he had come to her rescue.
With a single glance, Jiang Ning made the security guards step aside. He placed the general manager back down firmly and turned to Sumei.
“Are you alright?” he asked gently.
Sumei nodded, her words caught in her throat. Her mind was racing, but she couldn’t form a clear thought.
Jiang Ning turned back to the manager and the teller, his eyes cold. “I suggest you never lay a hand on her again. If I ever hear of this happening again, you won’t be so lucky.”
He motioned for Sumei to follow him. She hesitated for a moment, still dazed by everything, but then stood up and slowly followed him out.
As they left the bank, Sumei felt an overwhelming sense of relief, but she also couldn’t shake the feeling of fear that had taken root in her heart. What was going on? How was she connected to such a powerful force?
“Let’s go home,” Jiang Ning said, his voice calm but reassuring.
Sumei nodded, grateful to be out of the situation, but still shaken by the events that had just transpired. She couldn’t understand it all, but one thing was clear—Jiang Ning wasn’t just any man.
She was about to learn just how deep his connections ran, and the true power he held in this city.
