Chapter 99
The voice on the other end of the line trembled, as if caught off guard by Jiang Ning’s tone. “Mr. Jiang… it’s… it’s Wu Ping from the Ministry of Health. He’s here with some men, saying that there are issues with our company’s paperwork and manufacturing standards. I don’t know why they’re here now, but they’re making a big scene.”
Jiang Ning’s voice remained calm, but there was a hard edge to it. “I see. Keep calm, Zhang. This is just a small obstacle. Don’t let them intimidate you. I’ll handle it from here.”
Zhang hesitated for a moment, but Jiang Ning’s confidence was contagious. He steadied himself and nodded even though Jiang Ning couldn’t see it. “Understood, Mr. Jiang. I’ll stay out of their way until you arrive.”
“Good. Make sure the security handles it well. I’ll be there soon.” Jiang Ning ended the call and stood up, finishing his tea in one swift motion.
He could already see the situation for what it was: a scheme to create chaos. Wu Ping’s sudden appearance wasn’t just about paperwork. It was another move in the ongoing battle for control over Lin Group. Someone had deliberately planted the complaint to destabilize the company.
As he walked toward the elevator, he was already formulating his next steps. The Ministry of Health might have the authority, but Jiang Ning had the influence to shut this down before it escalated further.
When the elevator doors opened, Jiang Ning stepped inside, his expression resolute. The company’s problems were about to get a lot more complicated, but he wasn’t going to let anyone take advantage of this.
The elevator ascended quickly. When the doors opened on the top floor, Wu Ping and his men were already waiting at the entrance, looking rather pleased with themselves. They hadn’t expected this confrontation to take as long as it had.
“Mr. Jiang, just the man I was looking for,” Wu Ping said with a smirk. “I’m afraid I’ll have to inconvenience you. We’ve received some serious complaints about your company’s manufacturing standards. If you could step aside and let us through, we’ll get this sorted quickly.”
Jiang Ning raised an eyebrow but didn’t move from his position. “Complaints? From who, exactly?”
Wu Ping shrugged, a dismissive gesture. “That’s not important. What matters is that the Ministry of Health needs to investigate and ensure everything is in order. I’m sure you understand.”
“Oh, I understand perfectly,” Jiang Ning replied, his voice smooth and confident. “But what I don’t understand is why you’re here, harassing my people without providing any legitimate proof. You’re either incompetent, or you’re part of something much bigger.”
Wu Ping’s smile faltered slightly, but he quickly recovered. “You’re mistaken, Mr. Jiang. We’re just doing our job. No need to get upset.”
Jiang Ning stepped forward, his presence commanding attention. “I’m not upset. But I suggest you remember who you’re dealing with. Lin Group has been thoroughly inspected before, and everything has been compliant. If you have a problem, I’ll happily take it up with someone higher than you.”
Wu Ping hesitated, his mind racing. He had been expecting a pushback, but not this level of resistance. He had assumed Jiang Ning would simply bow to pressure like everyone else, but it was clear now that he wasn’t going to be intimidated so easily.
With a calm smile, Jiang Ning added, “Now, if you want to keep pushing this issue, I suggest you be prepared for the consequences. After all, you’re not the only one with connections, Wu Ping. The Ministry of Health wouldn’t want to be caught up in something… messy.”
Wu Ping’s face paled slightly as he realized the threat. He had been expecting a simple compliance check, not a confrontation with someone who could potentially expose his entire operation. He glanced nervously at his men, who were now silently observing, unsure whether they should back him up or pull away.
Jiang Ning continued, “I’ll say it once more. Get your facts straight and make sure you’re not being used as a pawn. If you’re smart, you’ll walk away now.”
Wu Ping stood frozen, the tension thick in the air. After a long moment, he let out a reluctant sigh. “Fine. We’ll be reviewing the documents later. But don’t think this is over, Mr. Jiang.”
With that, Wu Ping signaled for his men to retreat. Jiang Ning didn’t move an inch until they were out of sight, and only then did he allow himself a small, satisfied smile.
“Let’s make sure this doesn’t happen again,” Jiang Ning muttered under his breath before heading back to his office. There was no doubt in his mind that this was only the beginning of a much larger game. But he was more than ready to play it.
