Chapter 63
Jin Ran, still sprawled on the floor, gritted his teeth in seething anger, but the pain from the slap and the overwhelming pressure from Jiang Ning’s presence made it hard for him to form words. He could feel a chill run down his spine as Jiang Ning’s dark gaze bore into him, a silent promise that there was far more to come if he pushed any further.
Lin Feng stood beside him, eyes wide in disbelief, his face still stinging from the earlier slap. He had never imagined that someone like Jiang Ning could wield such authority, especially over someone from the Jin family. The Jins were not a family to be crossed lightly, and here was Jiang Ning, calmly daring to challenge them without a hint of fear.
“You think you can just walk around slapping people because of who you are?” Jin Ran finally managed to stammer, but his voice was shaky, and he could barely meet Jiang Ning’s gaze.
Jiang Ning’s expression remained cold and unfazed. “You’re lucky I haven’t decided to do more than slap you. Don’t ever think you can speak to my wife like that again.” His voice carried a cold certainty that sent a wave of terror through the air.
“Enough,” Lin Yuzhen interjected, stepping forward to stand beside Jiang Ning. Her eyes were sharp as she addressed the two men, though her tone was calm. “This is my life, and I’ll live it the way I see fit. If you think you can threaten me or Jiang Ning, then you’re in for a rude awakening.”
Jin Ran looked at her, still taken aback by her words. He had never encountered a woman so defiant, especially not in the face of someone as powerful as he was. His expression faltered for a moment, but he quickly regained his composure, trying to salvage the situation. “You’ll regret this,” he muttered under his breath.
“Regret?” Jiang Ning’s voice was even, but his words held an edge. “The only regret I see here is yours. Now get out of our way before things get worse for you.”
The tension in the restaurant was thick as the room seemed to hold its breath. The other guests, previously quiet, exchanged uneasy glances, clearly sensing the escalating hostility. Jin Ran and Lin Feng stood there for a moment longer, but neither dared to escalate things further. The weight of Jiang Ning’s words and the sheer power he exuded left them no room to argue.
Jin Ran, still seething with anger but realizing there was little he could do without suffering more humiliation, gave a curt nod. “This isn’t over, Jiang Ning. You’ll regret crossing the Jin family.”
Without another word, he turned and stormed out, his pride shattered but his hatred for Jiang Ning burning deeper than ever. Lin Feng, too, followed suit, his face dark with frustration and his mind racing with how to salvage his family’s reputation after this humiliating encounter.
Once they were gone, Jiang Ning turned to Lin Yuzhen, who had remained calm throughout the confrontation. He reached for her hand and gave it a gentle squeeze. “You okay?” he asked, his voice softening.
Lin Yuzhen smiled, though there was a hint of amusement in her eyes. “I’m fine. Thanks for standing up for me.”
Jiang Ning chuckled lightly. “No need to thank me. I’m your husband, after all. It’s my job to protect you.”
With the tension finally dissipating, they resumed their dinner, the earlier disturbance now just a memory. Jiang Ning’s mind, however, was already focused on the bigger picture. He had made it clear that he wouldn’t tolerate anyone threatening his family or crossing him. And if the Jin family thought they could continue to challenge him, they were gravely mistaken.
He looked at Lin Yuzhen, his gaze filled with quiet determination. “The Lin family is going to rise higher than anyone expects. And no one—not even the Jins—will stand in our way.”
Lin Yuzhen nodded, her eyes reflecting the same unspoken resolve. “I believe in you, Jiang Ning. We’ll rise together.”
