Chapter 29
Hei Hu’s heart sank as Huang Yuming’s words cut through the tension in the room. It was clear that his usual methods wouldn’t work here. Money, the driving force behind every decision he’d made, wasn’t going to save him this time. This was about something much bigger than just his ego or pride.
Huang Yuming’s cold words pierced through Hei Hu’s bravado. If he’d been dealing with Huang Yuming alone, maybe he could have found a way out, but this wasn’t just about him anymore—it was about Jiang Ning, someone who Hei Hu quickly realized wasn’t someone to trifle with. The man wasn’t just another player in the underground world; he was someone with a different level of power and influence.
“6.8 million. That’s the price,” Huang Yuming continued, his voice unwavering. “Once the money’s in, you get your men back. No tricks, no games. This is the final deal.”
Hei Hu’s mind raced. What the hell? I can’t back down, but I can’t pay that much either. What choice do I have? The tension in the air was thick. Hei Hu had been in enough dangerous situations to know when he was backed into a corner, and it felt like he was in that corner now. But his pride wouldn’t let him just cave. Instead, he stood up, forcing a smile onto his face, even though it felt like a mask.
“Is this a warning from you, or from that person?” Hei Hu’s laugh sounded more like a snarl. He knew Huang Yuming, but what he didn’t know was just how far Jiang Ning’s influence reached. The idea that there was someone who could make even someone like Huang Yuming this cautious made him uneasy.
But Huang Yuming wasn’t biting. “Take the deal or leave it, but I’m telling you, don’t play with fire unless you want to get burned.”
“Enough with the threats!” Hei Hu’s anger flared, and he stormed out, slamming the door behind him. But even as he walked away, doubt started creeping into his mind. Who the hell does Jiang Ning think he is?
Meanwhile, Huang Yuming wasn’t concerned about Hei Hu’s departure. He’d already done everything he could. As soon as Hei Hu left, Huang Yuming dialed Jiang Ning, updating him on the situation. “He’s refused your offer. What do you want to do next?”
Jiang Ning listened quietly as Huang Yuming explained. Then, he smiled, a cold smile that sent a shiver down anyone who saw it. “Let him play his games. We’ll see how long that lasts.”
With that, Jiang Ning’s next move was clear. He needed to make sure the 68 men understood who held the power. Walking over to them, his presence alone was enough to make them tremble. They had seen his ruthless efficiency firsthand, and none of them were foolish enough to think they could talk their way out of this.
“What… what do you want?” one of them asked, his voice trembling.
Jiang Ning didn’t even flinch. “You really think I came here to kill you?” His voice was smooth, calm, but it carried a weight that made the men uneasy.
He took a moment to look around at the group, letting his words settle in. “You’re not even worth my time for that. I’m here to make one thing clear: Your boss, Hei Hu, has abandoned you.”
The shock on their faces was palpable. “No, that’s impossible! Brother Hu wouldn’t do that!” another man shouted.
“Stop trying to turn us against each other!” another one cried out, his voice rising in defiance. “Brother Hu always said we’re brothers! He’s coming for us!”
Jiang Ning’s gaze swept over them, and he shook his head with a faint smile. “Has he come for you yet? It’s been a whole day, and not one of you has heard from him. If you’re so important to him, why hasn’t he shown up? Think about it.”
The men fell silent, the reality of the situation settling in. Each of them had hoped that Hei Hu would come through, but the silence was louder than any words could be.
Jiang Ning continued, his voice still cold, but now with an edge of finality. “I told you each of you is worth 100k. That’s the price for your lives. But your boss? He rejected that offer. So ask yourselves—what’s more important to him, money or you?”
