Chapter 74
Jin Ran, who had been lounging with the women, suddenly sat up straighter when he saw the serious expressions on Wu Qiang and Wu Bing’s faces. He knew something was wrong, and the sudden shift in the atmosphere made him uneasy.
“What’s going on?” Jin Ran asked, his voice laced with impatience and suspicion.
Wu Qiang exchanged a brief glance with Wu Bing before speaking. “Young Master Jin, the mission failed. We… we couldn’t do it.”
Jin Ran’s eyes narrowed, disbelief and anger flickering across his face. “Failed? How could you fail? You two have never failed before!”
Wu Bing’s face was hard as stone, his voice low and filled with bitterness. “It wasn’t because we weren’t capable. We ran into someone… someone who should never be crossed.”
Jin Ran’s frustration grew, but he didn’t immediately lash out. Instead, he raised an eyebrow, signaling them to explain further.
“That man… Jiang Ning,” Wu Qiang continued, his voice tinged with respect mixed with fear. “He’s not just some random person from the illegal circles. He’s the War God. You might’ve heard of him… the one who made Hei Hu tremble.”
A stunned silence filled the room. Even Jin Ran, who thought he had control over every situation, was taken aback by the mention of the War God. His eyes widened slightly, and for the first time since he had orchestrated this scheme, doubt crept into his mind.
“The War God?” Jin Ran muttered, his voice cracking slightly. “What do you mean, the War God? He’s supposed to be a legend. Are you telling me he’s real?”
“Yes,” Wu Bing replied coldly. “We thought we could handle it. But when we saw him, we realized we were just small fish. We could feel his pressure the moment we approached him. He let us go, but he reminded us of who we really are. If we had done anything to him, Hei Hu would have gotten us killed.”
Wu Qiang nodded in agreement. “We owed the Jins for saving our mother’s life, but we’ve paid that debt in full now. We won’t be involved in any more of your schemes. You might have the power, but that man… he’s not someone you can control, not even with all your money and influence.”
Jin Ran’s face turned dark, the smug expression he wore slipping away as he processed their words. He had made a grave mistake underestimating Jiang Ning. To think that someone like him had dared to offend such a person—it was beyond foolish. And now, he was faced with the consequences of his arrogance.
“Get out,” Jin Ran spat, his voice thick with anger and embarrassment. “Don’t show your faces here again. You’ve made your choices, and now you’ll live with them. But if you think you can just walk away without consequences, you’re wrong.”
Wu Qiang and Wu Bing didn’t argue. They had already made their decision, and they were ready to face whatever came next. Their encounter with Jiang Ning had shaken them, but they knew they had to cut ties with the Jins before things got worse. They turned and left the room, not looking back.
As they walked away from the hotel, Wu Qiang’s mind raced. He had always believed in loyalty, in the power of discipline, and in the value of doing things the right way. But now, he understood that some things—some people—were simply too dangerous to fight against.
Jiang Ning wasn’t just a man; he was a force of nature. And the Jins had made the mistake of poking that beast.
For Wu Qiang and Wu Bing, the path forward was uncertain. They had already been caught in the Jins’ web, but at least now they had the chance to leave it. However, they knew that their future would never be the same. Jiang Ning had spared them, but their association with the Jins had left its mark. They would have to rebuild their lives and their reputation, but they would do so with a new understanding of the world—and the people who ruled it.
The Jins, on the other hand, had no idea what they had truly unleashed. They thought they were playing a game, but they had made a powerful enemy in the process. And now, that enemy was watching from the shadows, waiting for the right moment to strike back.
