Chapter 100
The figure walking toward Wu Ping was none other than Governor Zhang. The sight of him brought a wave of unease to Wu Ping’s chest. He had not expected Governor Zhang to arrive so quickly, and certainly not under these circumstances.
Governor Zhang had a grave expression as he approached. His eyes scanned the situation, taking in the tense atmosphere, the employees already leaving for the day, and the silent hostility in the air.
“Mr. Wu,” Governor Zhang said, his voice low but carrying weight, “I hear there’s an issue here?”
Wu Ping stood frozen for a moment, struggling to collect himself. He had always thought of himself as an authoritative figure in these situations, but the sudden arrival of someone of Governor Zhang’s stature was enough to make him nervous. He cleared his throat and forced a smile, trying to mask the fear creeping in.
“Governor Zhang,” Wu Ping said, his tone attempting to be respectful, “We’re just conducting a routine inspection on behalf of the Ministry of Health. There seems to be a discrepancy with the paperwork of Lin Group, and we’re ensuring that everything is in order before they proceed with their operations.”
Governor Zhang’s eyes narrowed. He looked past Wu Ping to where Lin Yuzhen stood, calm and composed despite the tension. “Is that so?” he asked, not needing an answer from Wu Ping. His gaze turned to Lin Yuzhen, who met his eyes without hesitation.
“CEO Lin,” Governor Zhang said, his voice warm but with an underlying sharpness, “I trust this matter will be resolved soon, but I’d like to make one thing very clear.” He stepped closer, standing between Lin Yuzhen and Wu Ping, a silent show of support.
“I’m sure you’re aware that Donghai is a city where things are done by the book,” Governor Zhang continued. “However, I would also expect that certain individuals would be more… diligent about how they handle matters concerning businesses like Lin Group. The government, after all, is here to serve the people, not hinder them.”
Wu Ping’s face paled slightly, the implications of Governor Zhang’s words sinking in. He glanced at the men behind him, who were beginning to look uneasy, but his pride wouldn’t let him back down so easily.
“Governor Zhang, I’m merely following orders. Lin Group’s paperwork—” Wu Ping began, but Governor Zhang held up a hand, cutting him off.
“Enough,” he said firmly. “If you’re going to follow orders, make sure they’re legitimate and fair.” He turned back to Lin Yuzhen, his expression softening. “CEO Lin, you’ve been more than patient with this unnecessary disturbance. I’ll ensure everything is handled accordingly. Please don’t worry about any further delays.”
Wu Ping, his face flushed with frustration and embarrassment, couldn’t bring himself to argue. He had never expected this to escalate in this direction, especially not with Governor Zhang’s intervention.
“Governor Zhang, if there’s nothing more, I’ll… I’ll be on my way.” Wu Ping stammered, feeling the weight of his failure hanging heavily on his shoulders.
“See that you do,” Governor Zhang replied coldly, not even bothering to look back as Wu Ping and his men quickly made their way out of the building.
Once they were gone, Governor Zhang turned to Lin Yuzhen, his demeanor shifting back to its usual warmth. “I apologize for the inconvenience, CEO Lin. It seems some people don’t know their place. Please consider this matter resolved.”
Lin Yuzhen nodded, though her expression remained composed. “Thank you, Governor Zhang. I appreciate your swift intervention.”
Governor Zhang smiled kindly, his earlier tension dissipating. “It’s the least I could do. This company’s future is important, and it will continue to thrive regardless of these petty obstacles.”
With that, Governor Zhang nodded at her and left, his entourage following closely behind. As soon as he was out of sight, Lin Yuzhen exhaled softly, her posture relaxing just a little.
She looked at the director of the administrative department, who had been standing silently throughout the exchange. “Get everything back in order. We’ll continue with our plans as usual.”
The director nodded quickly, already preparing to get things moving again.
As for Wu Ping and his men, their plans had crumbled in an instant. Lin Yuzhen had turned the tables with one calm decision, and the weight of that victory was now evident in her poised, unshaken presence.
