Chapter 85
Lin Wu slowly rose to his feet, his face contorted in pain and fury. His body was trembling, but it wasn’t just from the physical pain—it was the humiliation, the realization that he had been brought to his knees by someone he had never even heard of until now.
“You think this is over?” Lin Wu snarled, his voice low and dangerous. His eyes flicked toward Lin Wen, then back to Jiang Ning, as if calculating his next move. “You might have won today, but don’t think for a second that I’ll forget this.”
Jiang Ning stepped back, his posture relaxed, but the coldness in his eyes remained. He had shown Lin Wu mercy, but it wasn’t out of kindness—it was simply because he didn’t feel like finishing him off just yet. There was no need.
“You want to live?” Jiang Ning’s voice was sharp, but his tone was almost bored. “Then stay out of our way. If you ever come near my family again, it won’t be broken bones you get.”
Lin Wu’s lip curled as he tried to steady himself, each movement sending waves of pain through his body. His pride was shattered, but his hatred for Jiang Ning burned stronger than ever. He had been humiliated in front of everyone, but he wouldn’t forget this. Not for a second.
“I’ll be back,” Lin Wu hissed, through clenched teeth. “And when I do, you’ll regret this.”
Jiang Ning didn’t even flinch. “No, you won’t,” he said flatly, before turning his back on him.
Su Mei, Lin Yuzhen, and Lin Wen stood there in stunned silence as Jiang Ning moved towards them. The tension in the room was so thick it could be cut with a knife. Even Lin Wu, despite his earlier bravado, stayed quiet, glaring at the ground as he clutched his broken limbs.
“Let him go, Jiang Ning,” Lin Wen said, his voice low, though he still winced in pain as he spoke. “He’s not worth it.”
Jiang Ning looked at him for a moment, then nodded, his expression softening. “This isn’t over. He won’t get away with hurting your family. But I won’t finish it now. He’ll remember today.”
Lin Wen gave a tired, almost resigned sigh, and glanced at Lin Wu, whose rage was simmering just below the surface. “He’ll never stop, will he?”
“No,” Jiang Ning said, his voice steady. “People like him never stop. But they always end up regretting it.”
Lin Wu’s eyes were still locked on them, burning with hatred, but he knew there was nothing he could do at that moment. His own body was betraying him, and the anger that boiled inside him couldn’t outweigh the pain he was enduring.
“Jiang Ning,” Lin Wen said quietly, his voice filled with both gratitude and concern, “Thank you for saving us. You’ve done enough. I know it wasn’t easy.”
Jiang Ning didn’t respond right away, his gaze still on Lin Wu, who was now slowly limping out of the house, nursing his wounds. Finally, he spoke, his voice cool but sincere. “I didn’t do it for you, Lin Wen. I did it for her.” His eyes flicked toward Lin Yuzhen, who stood close by, watching the exchange.
Lin Wen nodded, understanding the weight of those words. Jiang Ning’s loyalty to his wife, to his family, was unshakable. And that was something Lin Wen would never forget.
“Now,” Jiang Ning continued, his attention turning to Lin Wen, “you need to be careful. Lin Wu is the least of your problems. Lin Qiang is the real threat.”
Lin Wen’s face darkened. “I know. But that man is my brother, and he’s done far worse things than anyone knows. He’s never cared about this family—only about his own ambitions.”
Jiang Ning didn’t say anything more. He didn’t need to. The truth was obvious. But as he turned to leave the room, he knew one thing for sure: this was far from over. Lin Wu, Lin Qiang—they were just pawns in a much bigger game, and Jiang Ning wasn’t going to stop until he had eliminated every last threat to his family.
The room was silent, save for the sounds of Lin Wu’s retreating footsteps and the heavy breathing of everyone else in the room. They had survived today, but what would tomorrow bring?
