Chapter 34
Lin Wen’s face twisted with a mixture of anger and guilt, but the words that Jiang Ning spoke hit him like a cold splash of water. It was the truth, no matter how harsh it sounded. He had been paralyzed for years, dependent on the very people who didn’t respect him, and because of his weakness, his family had been subjected to this treatment.
“Jiang Ning,” Lin Wen muttered, his voice cracking, “I know it’s true. I’ve never been able to protect them… but it still doesn’t make it any easier to accept.”
Lin Yuzhen felt a pang in her heart as she turned toward her father, seeing the pain etched on his face. She knew he blamed himself, but she had never once resented him. It wasn’t his fault that the Lin family had turned their back on them. It wasn’t his fault that they were powerless in the face of Lin Xiao’s coldness and Lin Qiang’s manipulation.
“Dad, it’s not your fault,” Lin Yuzhen said softly, wiping away a tear that had escaped her eye. “We can’t change what’s happened, but we can keep moving forward. We’re not powerless.”
Jiang Ning’s expression softened as he watched the exchange between father and daughter. He had known Lin Wen would feel this way, but he also knew that the weight of this situation would eventually push them to make a decision—one that would change everything.
The silence in the car was heavy, but it was a silence that felt like a turning point.
“Lin Wen, Yuzhen,” Jiang Ning said quietly, breaking the silence, “We’ve been fighting on the wrong front. The Lin family… they’ll never accept us for who we are. They see you as a tool, a pawn. It’s time to stop depending on them. Let’s fight for what we deserve, not for their approval.”
Lin Wen looked up, his eyes still clouded with frustration, but there was a flicker of understanding. “You mean, we stop relying on them? But how can we stand up against Lin Qiang and all his power?”
Jiang Ning’s gaze was steady. “By using our own power. You’ve both worked hard, Yuzhen especially. You’ve built something with your own hands, and that’s worth far more than what they can ever offer. We’re going to take control of our own future.”
Lin Yuzhen’s heart skipped a beat as she realized what Jiang Ning was suggesting. They could fight for their future. They could break free from the control of the Lin family, no longer dependent on the wealth and influence that had kept them bound. But the path wouldn’t be easy.
“Jiang Ning,” Lin Yuzhen said, her voice steady now despite the turmoil within, “If we do this… there’s no going back, is there?”
“No,” Jiang Ning said firmly. “Once we take a stand, it’s all or nothing. But we’ve already lost too much by letting them dictate our lives. It’s time to take what’s rightfully ours.”
Lin Wen’s face hardened as he absorbed the weight of Jiang Ning’s words. For years, he had felt like an outsider, a burden to the family. But now, it seemed there was a way forward—a way to fight for their dignity, for their place in this world.
“Let’s do it,” Lin Wen said, his voice low but resolute. “For you, Yuzhen. For Mum. For us.”
Lin Yuzhen nodded, her eyes now filled with determination. “For us.”
The car continued down the road, the heavy air inside slowly starting to shift. The decision had been made, and though the road ahead would be full of challenges, Lin Wen, Lin Yuzhen, and Jiang Ning were ready to face them. Together, they would build their future, free from the shadows of the Lin family’s control.
