Chapter 83
The door swung open with a loud crash, and everyone at the table froze. The atmosphere shifted from lighthearted to tense in an instant. Lin Wen’s hand, which had been about to grab his chopsticks, halted mid-air. Lin Yuzhen’s smile faded, replaced by an alert, cautious look.
“Who—?” Lin Wen started to ask, but his voice trailed off when he saw the figures standing in the doorway.
A group of men, armed with cold expressions, filled the entrance. At the front stood Lin Wu, his face contorted with rage, eyes wild with fury. His presence was commanding, almost suffocating, as if he had brought a storm with him.
Behind him, the men in his entourage looked just as intimidating. They all seemed to radiate a sense of danger and power, their posture tense, ready for any confrontation.
Lin Wen stood up from his seat immediately, his gaze narrowing. His protective instincts kicked in. “What’s going on, Lin Wu?” His voice was calm, but it held an edge of authority, the same authority that had allowed him to build his own Lin Group without relying on his family’s backing.
“Lin Wen,” Lin Wu growled, his eyes locking onto his brother. “This time, I’ve come to settle everything. You’ve crossed the line, and now, you’re going to answer for it.”
Lin Wen didn’t flinch. He crossed his arms and leaned back, looking unfazed. “What exactly are you talking about? Crossed the line? What nonsense is this?”
Lin Wu’s gaze flicked to Lin Yuzhen for a moment, then back to Lin Wen. “You and your little scheme to take over the Lin family business? You thought I wouldn’t find out?”
Lin Wen’s face hardened. “Don’t try to twist things, Lin Wu. You’ve always been the one to mess things up in this family, not me. If anything, you’re the one who needs to be held accountable.”
“Enough!” Lin Wu’s voice boomed, his fists clenching at his sides. “You’ve been secretly plotting behind Dad’s back, causing all this chaos. You even made Dad suffer. I won’t let you get away with it!”
Lin Wen’s eyes darkened. “What are you talking about? Dad’s stroke is your fault, Lin Wu! You’ve been scheming behind his back with your manipulations. Don’t try to pin it on me!” His voice carried an intense calm, but the venom behind it was clear.
Lin Wu’s expression faltered for a moment, before his anger flared up again. “Don’t try to turn this around on me. You’ve already taken enough from this family. It’s time for you to pay the price!”
Lin Yuzhen, who had been standing quietly off to the side, her expression a mix of concern and confusion, stepped forward. “What is all this about?” she demanded, her voice cutting through the tense atmosphere. “What are you accusing my father of?”
Lin Wu’s sharp gaze turned to her. “You—stay out of this, Yuzhen. This is between me and Lin Wen. You should have known better than to get involved with him.”
The tension in the room was palpable, with every word between the two brothers intensifying the conflict. Lin Wen clenched his jaw, his body tensing as though he were preparing for a confrontation.
“Lin Wu, enough of this nonsense,” Lin Wen said, his voice now low and steady. “If you’re going to accuse me, then bring your evidence. Otherwise, don’t waste my time with these empty threats.”
Lin Wu was silent for a moment, his anger simmering beneath the surface. Finally, he spoke again, his voice quieter but no less threatening. “I don’t need to explain myself to you. You’ll see soon enough just how much you’ve overestimated yourself. The Lin family doesn’t belong to you. Not anymore.”
With that, Lin Wu turned and left, his entourage following closely behind, the weight of his words hanging in the air like a dark cloud. The door slammed shut with a finality that echoed through the house.
Lin Wen stood motionless for a few moments, his hands still clenched. Lin Yuzhen looked between her father and Lin Wen, her confusion deepening.
“What’s going on, Dad?” she finally asked, her voice trembling slightly. “Why is Lin Wu acting like this? What did he mean by all that?”
Lin Wen sighed heavily, rubbing his temples. “It seems we have a bigger mess on our hands than we thought.” His expression was grave, and for the first time, a hint of doubt crossed his face. “We’ll need to figure this out—fast.”
As the door closed behind Lin Wu, Lin Yuzhen felt a sinking feeling in her chest. This was no longer just a family issue; it was a battle for control, for power—and it was only just beginning.
