Chapter 25
The atmosphere shifted quickly, as the hooligans’ menacing shouts echoed through the site. Lin Yuzhen’s worry was evident, but Jiang Ning’s calm demeanor stood in stark contrast to the chaos. With a swift motion, he turned to Lin Yuzhen, his eyes unwavering.
“Take your phone out. Call the police. Keep them busy while I handle this,” Jiang Ning said with a firm, almost nonchalant tone.
Lin Yuzhen hesitated, but she trusted him. Her fingers were shaking slightly as she dialed the emergency number. Meanwhile, Jiang Ning’s eyes locked onto the group of men causing the disturbance. He stepped forward, positioning himself between the hooligans and the workers, ready to act.
“Who gave you the order to do this?” Jiang Ning’s voice cut through the tension, his tone cool and steady.
The lead thug, a burly man with tattoos stretching down his arms, sneered. “This site’s ours now. Leave, and maybe we’ll let you walk away.”
Jiang Ning didn’t flinch. “I’ll give you one chance to turn around and leave. Otherwise, you won’t like how this ends.”
The thug laughed, his crew following suit, but their amusement was short-lived as they noticed the determined look on Jiang Ning’s face. The leader took a step forward, raising his bat menacingly.
Before anyone could react, Jiang Ning moved like lightning. His hand shot out, grabbing the thug’s wrist and twisting it sharply. The thug yelped in pain as the bat fell from his hand. With a swift kick, Jiang Ning sent the thug stumbling backward.
The rest of the hooligans paused for a moment, stunned by Jiang Ning’s speed and strength. Seeing their leader falter made them hesitate, unsure of what to do next.
“Do you really want to test me?” Jiang Ning asked calmly, his voice now colder than ever.
One of the men tried to rush him from behind, but Jiang Ning was quicker. With a turn of his body, he disarmed the man, sending him crashing to the ground in a heap.
Lin Yuzhen, watching from behind, felt a mixture of awe and disbelief. Jiang Ning wasn’t just talk; he was power in motion. The hooligans were now retreating, unsure of how to handle the situation.
“Get back, all of you! This isn’t worth it!” one of them yelled, and the group began backing off.
As the hooligans retreated, Jiang Ning glanced back at Lin Yuzhen. “Make sure the police know exactly what happened. We can’t let them get away with this.”
Lin Yuzhen nodded quickly, already speaking into the phone. Her voice was steady, but the tension from the confrontation lingered in the air.
Within moments, the police arrived, and Jiang Ning handed over the details of the incident. The workers, still shaken but safe, slowly resumed their tasks, grateful for the quick intervention.
Once things had calmed down, Lin Yuzhen walked over to Jiang Ning. “I can’t believe you handled them so easily. How did you do that?”
Jiang Ning smirked. “Just a little practice.”
She couldn’t help but feel a sense of respect for him. He had been so calm, so effective in dealing with the situation. For a moment, it was hard to think of him as just a man who had married into the family—he was becoming someone far more important, someone who could protect those he cared about.
As the workers continued their day, Lin Yuzhen glanced at Jiang Ning, her heart still racing. She had seen a side of him she hadn’t fully understood before. And that side made her feel both admiration and a strange sense of unease about the future.
