Chapter 23
In fact, this wasn’t just about monopolizing the market—it was blatant extortion!
“Miss Lin, this is the only way we can get the materials. They’ve blocked the road and are only allowing their supplies to pass through. If we want anything, we have to buy from them,” Mr. Xu explained, frustration clear in his face. “But their prices are five times the market rate!”
It was impossible for them to make such a purchase. It would blow their entire budget, and the office would never approve it. The factory needed to be built urgently; delays would lead to massive losses, and no one could afford that kind of responsibility.
“Who are these people?” Lin Yuzhen asked.
“I don’t know. They just showed up out of nowhere,” Mr. Xu answered, shaking his head. “I tried to reason with them, but they nearly beat me up. I called the police, and they ran when they heard the sirens. But once the police left, they came back and resumed blocking the road. I’m at my wit’s end.”
Lin Yuzhen’s frustration flared. It was clear that these people were intentionally causing trouble, but who were they, and why target her project?
“We can’t just sit here. We have to do something.” Lin Yuzhen stood, determined. The project couldn’t be delayed, and she was not about to take the financial hit for something she couldn’t control. But just as she prepared to take action, Jiang Ning, who had been standing quietly by the door, suddenly left the room.
The only road leading to the factory was narrow and poorly maintained, but it was the only route for delivering materials. Now, a large sign halfway down read, “Roadblock Ahead, Drive Slowly.” It wasn’t a concern for ordinary cars, but for any vehicle carrying materials to the Lin Group factory, they were immediately turned away.
“Boss, the Lin Group’s factory will never get built at this rate, even if they have decades,” one of the men guarding the road said with a sneer.
“Yeah, they can’t get any steel, cement, or wood in. What are they going to use to build?” another laughed.
“They just need to buy from us, though,” a third added. “It’ll cost five or six times more, but they can afford it, right? They’re filthy rich!”
The group laughed, sitting casually in a tent by the road. Their blockade was effective. No vehicles carrying materials for the Lin Group could get through.
“Is Laosi still in a coma?” someone asked.
“That idiot!” another replied. “He was supposed to settle this, and now he’s a mess. Boss wasn’t happy when he heard about it.”
“Who did he piss off? He was beaten up so badly—he must be out of his mind to pick a fight with us.”
Suddenly, they noticed a car speeding toward them in the distance. It was a white BMW, but the front of the car was severely damaged.
“Stop that car! See who it is,” the leader ordered.
As the car approached, it didn’t slow down; in fact, it sped up.
“Stop! STOP!” they shouted, panicked, realizing the car was heading straight toward them.
But the driver was not stopping. It was Jiang Ning.
BAM!
The BMW collided head-on with the barrier, breaking it into pieces.
“Bloody hell, this guy’s nuts!” someone shouted.
“He’s crazy!” another yelled. “Is he trying to kill us?”
The remaining men in the tent scrambled to avoid the car, but Jiang Ning calmly stepped out, unfazed by the destruction. Furious, the group charged at him, shouting threats.
“Get over here!” one of them yelled. “You nearly killed me! I’m going to kill you!”
“You’d better kneel down and compensate me!” another screamed.
As they reached Jiang Ning, one man tried to grab him. But in a split second, Jiang Ning struck him hard in the chest with a swift blow, breaking his bone with a loud crack.
“AHHH!”
The other men froze, their fear escalating as they saw their companion writhe in pain on the ground. Within moments, three of them were incapacitated, their limbs broken.
The final man, wielding a knife, rushed forward. “You’re asking for it!”
Before the man could even get close, Jiang Ning raised a hand. With one swift punch, he struck the man in the nose, causing a sickening crack. Blood spurted everywhere.
“AHHHHH!” The man screamed in agony, clutching his face as blood poured from his nostrils. His entire face seemed to collapse.
“Who… who are you?” he gasped, his voice trembling in pain. “Do you know who we are?”
Jiang Ning’s voice was cold, his tone unwavering. “I don’t care who you are. I’m telling you this once. If you dare to affect the Lin Group’s factory progress again, you’ll regret it.”
With that, he turned and got back into the car, driving away.
The men lay on the ground, unable to move. It wasn’t just the pain of their injuries—it was the terrifying aura Jiang Ning exuded that left them paralyzed with fear. It was as if they had come face-to-face with a wild beast that could tear them apart without a second thought.
“Hurry, get to the hospital!” one man shouted, his voice full of panic. “Tell Boss we’ve run into a tough one!”
Back at the meeting room, Lin Yuzhen and the others were still racking their brains for a solution, but nothing seemed to work. These people were smart and ruthless, and there seemed to be no way around them but to meet their demands.
Lin Yuzhen finally stood up. “I’m going to handle this. I can’t afford to waste any more time.”
But before she could leave, Jiang Ning reappeared at the door. “No need to worry, Miss Lin. I’ve already taken care of it.”
“What?” Lin Yuzhen and the others were stunned. “When did you—”
“When you were having your meeting,” Jiang Ning replied nonchalantly. “I already spoke with them. They’ve moved the barrier. The road’s clear for the materials to come through now.”
Lin Yuzhen was stunned. She couldn’t believe it. They had spent so much time discussing, trying to figure out a solution, and Jiang Ning had done it in no time at all.
But Jiang Ning had never lied to her. He had always been truthful, and if he said it was taken care of, she believed him.
“Mr. Xu,” Lin Yuzhen said, still trying to process the situation. “Have the vehicles start moving the materials immediately.”
Mr. Xu quickly got to work.
Lin Yuzhen turned to Jiang Ning, her curiosity piqued. “How did you manage to do it?”
“With gentle persuasion and a sincere heart,” Jiang Ning said, grinning. “Well, at first, that was the plan. But after thinking about it, I realized my fists would do a much better job.”
Lin Yuzhen couldn’t help but laugh, though she was still in disbelief. She had to admit, Jiang Ning had a way of getting things done.
“Alright, let’s call it a day. Time to go home,” Jiang Ning said, pulling her toward the door.
“Again? Are we heading home?” she asked, a little confused.
Jiang Ning didn’t answer. Instead, he dragged her into the car, making a sharp turn that sent dust flying into the air. “The front of this car looks terrible. Let’s go get you a new one.”
