Chapter 32
Lin Wen’s expression hardened, and he felt a surge of frustration. He couldn’t understand how his father, despite his age, could remain so detached, even when things concerning the family’s future were at stake. His voice tightened with urgency as he called out again, “Dad!”
Finally, Lin Xiao lowered the prayer beads and opened his eyes, acknowledging the presence of his son and granddaughter. However, the indifference in his gaze made Lin Wen feel as if the years of loyalty and effort had been forgotten. Lin Xiao sighed deeply before putting the beads down.
“You’re here to talk about Lin Qiang again?” Lin Xiao’s voice was calm but laced with underlying tension.
Lin Wen didn’t mince words. “Yes, I know what he’s been doing. He’s paid someone five million to sabotage Yuzhen’s project. Do you have any idea how far he’s willing to go to tear this family apart?” His words came out sharp, full of resentment.
Lin Xiao’s expression shifted slightly, but his demeanor remained cool and collected. “I know, but it’s not something you should be involved in, Wen. Stay out of it. Lin Qiang has his own methods.”
“Stay out of it?” Lin Wen repeated in disbelief, his voice rising. “You’ve let him do whatever he wants for years. And now, he’s targeting Yuzhen? Your own granddaughter? How can you let this happen?”
Lin Xiao’s eyes narrowed, but he didn’t raise his voice. “It’s the way things have always been. The stronger ones rise, the weaker ones fall. That’s the law of the Lins, whether you like it or not.”
Lin Wen gritted his teeth, his hands clenching into fists. “This isn’t just about business or power. It’s about family! Yuzhen’s efforts could save this company, but instead, Lin Qiang is trying to destroy it all.”
Lin Xiao’s lips curved into a faint, almost regretful smile. “That’s the nature of the world, Wen. You should have learned this long ago.”
Lin Yuzhen stood quietly beside her father, her heart heavy with disappointment. She hadn’t expected much from Lin Xiao, but hearing him speak so coldly about family ties left her speechless. The man she had looked up to as a child was now just another player in the ruthless game of power.
“Dad,” Lin Yuzhen finally spoke, her voice calm but firm. “You can’t keep pretending that everything’s fine while the family falls apart. You need to do something about Lin Qiang. If you don’t, everything that’s left of the Lin name will be destroyed.”
Lin Xiao didn’t respond immediately, only closing his eyes again, his hands slowly picking up the prayer beads. It was clear he had no intention of getting involved, no matter how much the situation demanded it.
Lin Wen’s frustration boiled over, but just as he was about to retort, a voice interrupted them.
“Enough, both of you.”
Jiang Ning had entered the room, his expression calm but commanding. He stood at the threshold, his eyes meeting Lin Xiao’s directly.
“You’ve seen where things are heading, old man,” Jiang Ning continued, his tone steady, “and if you don’t act now, there won’t be anything left for anyone to salvage. Lin Qiang’s actions are a threat to all of you. I’m not here for your approval. But if you let him keep doing this, you will have no family left.”
Lin Xiao’s eyes flicked over to Jiang Ning, his gaze sharp for the first time since the conversation began. “Who are you to speak in my house?”
“I’m the one who’s seen how your son is willing to burn this whole family down just to take control. And I’m the one who’s here to make sure that doesn’t happen,” Jiang Ning replied, his voice unwavering.
Lin Xiao studied him for a moment, then gave a small, almost imperceptible nod. “You’re bold. But that doesn’t mean you know everything.”
“I don’t need to know everything,” Jiang Ning said coolly. “I just need to know enough to stop Lin Qiang from destroying what’s left of this family.”
The tension in the room thickened. Lin Wen and Lin Yuzhen exchanged a glance, both of them startled by Jiang Ning’s directness. It wasn’t just that he was willing to speak so openly, but the authority with which he spoke was undeniable.
Lin Xiao didn’t say anything for a long time, his eyes flickering with something unreadable. Finally, he stood up slowly from his chair, his body creaking slightly. “You think you can handle my son?” He asked, his voice more a statement than a question.
Jiang Ning didn’t flinch. “I know I can.”
For a moment, it seemed as if the conversation might end there, but Lin Xiao surprised everyone by turning toward the door.
“Then show me,” he said simply, before walking out of the room, leaving the rest to digest his words.
Lin Wen and Lin Yuzhen stood there, processing everything that had just transpired. It seemed like the game was about to escalate, and they were no longer sure where they stood in their own family.
Jiang Ning turned to Lin Wen and Yuzhen. “I’m going to handle it, but you need to be ready. Lin Qiang won’t go down without a fight.”
Lin Wen nodded, his face hardening with resolve. “If you’re going after him, I’m in.”
Yuzhen, though still shaken, stood tall beside her father. “We’ll be ready.”
Together, they were no longer just fighting for the factory. They were fighting for everything the Lin family had built—and for everything they had lost.
