Chapter 55
Su Mei smiled knowingly as she scrubbed a plate. “Yuzhen, I’ve seen many people in my life, and I can tell he’s not like the others. He’s good to you, and that’s enough for me. He’s not just a ‘husband’ by title; he really cares.”
Lin Yuzhen hesitated for a moment, wiping her hands on the dish towel. “I know, but sometimes, I just… don’t understand him. He says things that sound impossible, like starting a new company overnight. I can’t even grasp how he’s doing all of this, and I don’t want to be swept away by something too big to handle.”
Su Mei paused, putting down the plate she was holding and turning to face her daughter. “I understand your concerns, but listen to me—sometimes in life, you have to take risks. Jiang Ning might be acting bold, but that’s because he believes in both you and your family. He’s not doing it for himself alone; he’s doing it because he sees something in you. It’s not just about the money or the business—it’s about the chance to make things right, to have a real future, to build something from scratch.”
Lin Yuzhen let out a long breath, unsure of what to say next. “But what if it all falls apart? What if he’s wrong about this whole Lin Group thing?”
Su Mei smiled gently, placing a hand on her daughter’s arm. “Yuzhen, nothing is guaranteed in life, and that’s the truth. But if you don’t take a chance, you’ll never know what could have been. Jiang Ning isn’t just giving you a business opportunity; he’s giving you a chance to stand on your own and to create something you can be proud of. Even if it fails, at least you tried.”
Lin Yuzhen glanced back toward the living room, where Jiang Ning was lounging, completely at ease. She hadn’t seen him as much more than the man who had once been forced into their family, a stranger with a strange way of doing things. But now, seeing her mother so assured, a small seed of doubt began to grow—maybe Jiang Ning was the one who saw the potential in her that she hadn’t even noticed herself.
“I guess… maybe I should trust him,” Lin Yuzhen murmured. “He does seem to believe in all of us, even when we have our doubts.”
Su Mei nodded. “Exactly. Trust is what builds families, what builds businesses, what builds dreams. And he’s showing you he’s willing to work for it. The rest is up to you. Don’t let fear hold you back from your own future.”
Lin Yuzhen smiled faintly, a wave of gratitude washing over her. “Thanks, Mum.”
Meanwhile, in the living room, Jiang Ning stretched out, clearly content. His plan was starting to come together, and his confidence was contagious. Tomorrow, they would take the first step toward something bigger than any of them could have imagined. But it wasn’t just about the business—it was about giving Lin Yuzhen the freedom she’d always deserved, a chance to carve out her own legacy, free from the burdens of the past.
As Lin Yuzhen joined him on the couch later that evening, she caught his eye and smiled. “Tomorrow, huh? New Lin Group.”
Jiang Ning grinned back, an unshakable confidence in his expression. “Yep. And it’s just the beginning.”
