Chapter 15
Huang Yuming stood before the large window, nervously holding the phone. When talking to Brother Fei, he dared not sit.
“Brother Fei, everything has been arranged,” Huang Yuming said respectfully. “Do you have any further instructions for me?”
“From now on, you will answer only to my boss,” Brother Fei replied. “Once I’m finished here, I’ll come to Donghai.”
The words made Huang Yuming’s heart race. Brother Fei is coming?
“Tell me, Huang Yuming,” Brother Fei continued, his tone ominous, “why do you think I supported your rise in Donghai City?”
Suddenly, Huang Yuming understood. It’s because of Jiang Ning.
Jiang Ning’s arrival in Donghai had been the catalyst for everything. He now realized that Fei had been setting things up for years, waiting for Jiang Ning’s return. Was Jiang Ning already preparing to come back five years ago?
“You’re a smart person, so I don’t need to give you too many hints,” Fei said, his voice colder now. “Do well, and the Big Boss will reward you.”
With that, Fei hung up, leaving Huang Yuming standing in a daze. He had a deep respect for Fei’s power and influence, but now he found himself trembling at the thought of Jiang Ning. Who is this man, really?
The more he thought about it, the more Huang Yuming realized that his entire purpose had been to serve Jiang Ning. Everything prepared over the years was now ready to be put into action.
Knock knock.
There was a knock on the door, and one of Huang Yuming’s subordinates entered quickly.
“Boss.”
Huang Yuming immediately frowned, his tone stern. “From now on, call me CEO Huang! And remember—there is only one Big Boss in Donghai.”
“Understood, CEO Huang. The news has been sent out as you instructed.”
Huang Yuming’s eyes narrowed. “Is it the Lin family—father and son?”
“Yes, Lin Feng gave me 500 grand in exchange for knowing how you’re connected to Lin Yuzhen. I told him it’s because you went through tough times together with Jiang Ning and are now returning the favor.”
Huang Yuming nodded, his thoughts racing. If I really did go through hard times with Jiang Ning… that would be the greatest asset I have! But deep down, I know I could never truly claim that.
“Those two better watch out,” Huang Yuming muttered darkly. “Even if the Big Boss doesn’t care about them, I won’t let them ruin his mood.”
With a final order, he instructed, “Report anything unusual to me immediately.”
Meanwhile, Jiang Ning was driving Lin Yuzhen toward the construction site for a new project—the one she had just signed. The Lin family had invested heavily in this project, purchasing land on the outskirts of the city for the factory.
As they approached, Lin Yuzhen glanced over at Jiang Ning. “What did my mom talk to you about?”
She had noticed that Jiang Ning and her mother, Sumei, had actually been able to hold a conversation, and it struck her as odd. She knew her mother well—Sumei was a strong woman, one who had endured a lot, but this time, it was clear she couldn’t take the pressure of Lin Xiao forcing her to accept a new husband into their family.
Jiang Ning replied with a calm smile, “She said I’m doing well. She encouraged me to keep working hard, and if she’s happy with me, she’ll have you marry me for real.”
Lin Yuzhen’s face flushed. “That’s nonsense.”
She couldn’t believe it. After all, Jiang Ning was just someone her mother had known for a few days. How could Sumei have said such things?
“Alright, alright, no more nonsense,” Jiang Ning said, his expression lightening. “Your mum did warn me though. She said if I ever hurt you, she’d fight me to the death.”
Now, that sounded more like her mother.
Lin Yuzhen took a deep breath. “Even though I don’t know why you’ve decided to stay by my side, I know you won’t hurt me.”
She paused, feeling grateful. “Thank you.”
Jiang Ning remained silent. In truth, he was the one who should be saying thank you.
As they neared the site, a large group had gathered in front of the entrance, blocking the way and causing a commotion. Jiang Ning parked the car, and Lin Yuzhen quickly got out.
The project manager, his face full of anxiety, was talking to the troublemakers. “What do you want? The contract was just signed, and we need this factory completed soon. Why are you causing trouble?”
One of the ringleaders, holding a wooden bat, sneered. “This land belongs to us. Who gave you permission to build a factory here?”
Lin Yuzhen was furious. “No, this land is ours! The contract is valid!”
The leader laughed coldly. “Your contract is worthless. We’re not letting you start any work here. We’ll block all your deliveries—no cement, no sand.”
“You’ve gone too far!” Lin Yuzhen snapped, turning to the project manager. “Call the police!”
The leader’s expression darkened at the mention of the police. “You dare to call the police?!” he shouted. “Brothers, destroy this place!”
Before Lin Yuzhen could react, the leader swung his bat toward her. She froze, unprepared for such an aggressive attack.
But just then, a loud BAM! sounded. Lin Yuzhen blinked and found Jiang Ning standing in front of her, his foot having sent the attacker flying.
“So someone dares to hit my wife, huh?” Jiang Ning’s voice was icy.
He surveyed the rest of the group. “You have ten seconds to get lost.”
“Ahh…” The attacker on the ground groaned in pain, clearly injured. “Kill him!”
More than ten other men rushed at Jiang Ning, but before Lin Yuzhen could shout a warning, the scene turned into a blur of action.
BAM! BAM! BAM!
In less than ten seconds, all the attackers lay sprawled on the ground, groaning in agony with broken limbs.
The project managers watched in shock, their faces pale with fear.
Jiang Ning walked over to the leader, who was lying helplessly on the ground. With a cold look in his eyes, he placed a foot on the leader’s chest.
“Who sent you?” Jiang Ning asked, his voice calm but deadly.
“Y-You can’t do this… My boss will…!” the leader, Wang Laosi, gritted through the pain.
“You lost your chance.” Jiang Ning’s voice was cold, and his foot pressed down with immense force. Wang Laosi let out a final scream, his life cut short in that instant.
The other hooligans, terrified and shaking, scrambled to get up and flee.
“What… what… was that?” The project managers whispered in disbelief.
Jiang Ning didn’t spare them a glance. He simply pulled Lin Yuzhen into the site, leaving the chaos behind.
One of the project managers, his voice trembling, asked, “Should we still call the police?”
“No need,” Jiang Ning answered dismissively. “This garbage isn’t worth the trouble.”
He turned, beginning to count. “Ten… Nine… Eight…”
By the time he reached “Seven,” the remaining hooligans were already scrambling to get up and run.
“Run! RUN!” they yelled in fear.
“He’s a monster! A MONSTER!”
The sight of Jiang Ning’s merciless actions had driven the last of their courage away, and they knew—if they didn’t leave immediately, they might never leave at all.
