Chapter 27
The aftermath of the battle was a strange silence, with only the pained groans of the few remaining conscious thugs breaking the stillness. Lin Yuzhen, still reeling from the shock of what had just happened, finally gathered herself. Her eyes widened in disbelief as she watched Jiang Ning casually swipe his phone out of his pocket.
“I’m fine,” Jiang Ning assured, as if he hadn’t just wiped out a gang of sixty men in less than a minute. He barely broke a sweat, his calm demeanor contrasting starkly with the chaos around him. His thoughts were already moving beyond this skirmish, evaluating the poor quality of the attackers and mentally noting that he hadn’t even broken a sweat.
He dialed a number, speaking with his usual confidence. “Huang Yuming, there’s some garbage here you need to clean up.”
Once he hung up, he turned to the workers, who were still frozen in astonishment, eyes wide. “You can continue your work. No one’s going to disturb you again. Got it?”
The workers, their mouths agape, nodded quickly, eager to return to their tasks but clearly unsettled by what they had just witnessed. Mr. Xu, trembling slightly, watched Jiang Ning with newfound awe. He couldn’t help but think, This man… is the real deal.
“Brother Ning!” Mr. Xu approached hurriedly, out of breath but determined. “I’ll keep a close eye on things, don’t worry! I won’t let anything happen to Miss Lin or the project!”
Jiang Ning nodded, his focus already shifting as he surveyed the tied-up thugs on the ground. Just then, Huang Yuming arrived, flanked by a few of his own men. His eyes burned with a righteous fury as he surveyed the incapacitated gang members.
“Tie them all up,” Huang Yuming ordered, his voice like ice. “Who dares to make trouble for my project?”
As he approached Jiang Ning, his gaze softened, and he spoke with obvious regret, “Big Boss, I should’ve taken better care of things. Boss Yuzhen shouldn’t have had to be frightened.”
Jiang Ning gave him a reassuring smile. “I’m here to handle it. No one will harm my wife.”
He then pointed toward the leader of the group, still dazed on the ground. “That one said his boss is Hei Hu.”
“Hei Hu?” Huang Yuming’s expression shifted. The name was familiar, and not in a good way. A powerful figure in the underworld, known for being ruthless and controlling much of Donghai’s illegal dealings.
“Is he difficult to handle?” Jiang Ning asked.
“A little,” Huang Yuming admitted. “He’s dangerous, and I’ve had a few dealings with him before. But I didn’t think he’d be involved in this. Still, I’ll take care of it. Don’t worry.”
Jiang Ning’s eyes narrowed. “Fei didn’t place you in Donghai all these years just to let you advance in the legal circles.”
Huang Yuming blinked, stunned by the insight. He hadn’t expected Jiang Ning to lay out such a clear vision. The implication was clear—Jiang Ning wanted him to clean up not just this mess but the entire underworld of Donghai. A full sweep.
“Contact Hei Hu,” Jiang Ning instructed calmly. “Tell him to come and ransom his men. Each one will cost him 100k. If he even tries to offer a cent less, no one is leaving this site.”
Huang Yuming quickly nodded, recognizing the gravity of the situation. That meant a total ransom of 6.8 million. He understood Jiang Ning’s strategy: get every last cent, and don’t let Hei Hu off easy. No shortcuts, no exceptions.
Lin Yuzhen, who had been quietly listening to the conversation, couldn’t hold back her concern. “Jiang Ning… aren’t you taking this too far? If even Huang Yuming says Hei Hu is dangerous, then going this route is going to make him angry. You might be escalating this too much.”
Jiang Ning shook his head, his tone unwavering. “If this small thing is what’s considered a big deal, that would be a real embarrassment.”
His voice had the sort of casual confidence that left no room for doubt. To Jiang Ning, the threat of a gangster like Hei Hu wasn’t even a blip on the radar. He had faced far worse, and his confidence radiated that this was just another hurdle, easily overcome.
“Don’t worry,” he added with a smile. “Go ahead with your work. I promise, nothing will stop this project.”
Lin Yuzhen, still a little uneasy but unable to argue with his confidence, gave him a skeptical but resigned look. She wasn’t about to question him further. After all, in just a few minutes, Jiang Ning had taken control of the situation in a way no one else could have. And in some strange way, she felt safe knowing he was there.
Though she was still processing the magnitude of everything that had happened, she had no choice but to trust him. “Alright,” she said quietly, giving him a small nod. “I trust you.”
Jiang Ning’s smile softened, and for a moment, it wasn’t about power or control—it was about her, about reassuring her. He didn’t need to say more. His actions had already spoken louder than words ever could.
