Chapter 19
The photos of Loraine and Cayson spread across social media, capturing moments of them together: Cayson opening the car door for her as she got in and the two dining together, laughing and enjoying their meal. The malicious caption accompanying the photos fueled the fire:
“According to an insider’s report, the man in the photos is the current CEO of Universe Group, Cayson Benton. After divorcing Marco, Loraine got herself another rich man. She just got employed in Universe Group. I think there is something fishy going on.”
The public jumped to wild conclusions, sharing their opinions in a frenzy:
“In my opinion, they are in a relationship. Perhaps she was dating him even while she was married. I think Marco divorced her after he caught her cheating.”
“Yeah, she seems like a pretentious bitch. Marco probably discovered her true colors, so he divorced her. She’s warming another man’s bed without shame. What a slut!”
“You are right! I wonder what those two CEOs saw in her. Poor Marco, he got married to a promiscuous woman. Cayson needs to learn a lesson from him.”
The accusations and slander quickly spread, causing a storm of negativity around Loraine. People were vicious, their words cutting deeply. Loraine and Cayson were being framed for something that wasn’t true.
As if the situation couldn’t get worse, Bryant Group issued a statement that stated its CEO, Marco Bryant, had no further ties with his ex-wife. This declaration seemed to fuel the flames, turning the online backlash into a wildfire of hatred and judgment. Twitter users hurled insults at Loraine like never before.
Just as Loraine was grappling with the storm, her phone rang. It was Rowan Torres, her uncle.
“This is ridiculous!” Rowan’s voice boomed through the phone, filled with fury. She could hear him slamming his fist on the table. “How dare they say such malicious things about you, Lorrie? You suffered a lot at the hands of that bastard and his family. We are yet to settle scores with them, but they’re out here playing the victim. They’ve stepped on our toes. Don’t worry. I’ll look into Bryant Group and let them know that no one dares to bully the heiress of the Torres family and go scot-free.”
Loraine felt the weight of her uncle’s anger, and while part of her wanted revenge, she also knew this could escalate the situation even more. She took a deep breath, trying to keep her calm.
“Uncle Rowan, please calm down,” she urged, her voice steady despite the turmoil inside.
Rowan, however, wasn’t having it. “Why should I? Don’t tell me you still have feelings for Marco?” His tone turned suspicious, and Loraine could almost hear the doubt in his voice.
