Chapter 32
In the face of Marco’s taunts, Cayson responded with calm composure. “Now, tell me, what makes you think you have the right to interrogate me? I’m Loraine’s boss. What exactly are you to her?”
Without hesitation, Marco blurted, “I’m her husband!”
Cayson’s eyes glinted with mockery. “Correction. Ex-husband.” His voice carried a biting edge. “You were married to Loraine for three years, and in all that time, you never once fulfilled your role as her husband. She suffered every day under your indifference. She’s no longer your wife, Marco. Stop pestering her. Don’t dare show your face in front of her again.”
Marco stood there, speechless, as guilt surged within him. He had never paid attention to Loraine’s struggles while they were married, and now, the weight of her pain was crashing down on him.
Cayson turned his gaze to Marina, his tone hardening. “If you cause any more trouble for Loraine, remember, you’ll get more than just a slap next time.”
With that, he wrapped his arm around Loraine’s shoulders and led her away. This time, Marco made no move to stop them.
“Marco! Do something! Why are you just standing there? You haven’t avenged me yet!” Marina’s voice broke through the tension, high-pitched and petulant, like a child throwing a tantrum.
“I brought you here to teach them a lesson. Why did you let them go? They humiliated me!” She stamped her foot in frustration.
Marco’s expression darkened at his sister’s complaints. He remembered Cayson’s words clearly. Turning to Marina, he asked, his tone serious, “Tell me the truth, Marina. Did you provoke Loraine?”
“Of course not,” Marina answered quickly, though guilt flashed in her eyes. “I did nothing wrong. Loraine just slapped me for no reason!”
Marco’s sharp gaze fixed on her, suspicion growing.
“Since that’s your story, let’s go watch the surveillance footage,” he suggested, his voice cold.
The mention of CCTV made Marina’s heart skip a beat. If Marco saw the footage, she would be in deep trouble. Her mind raced, looking for an escape, but Marco was already grabbing her hand, dragging her toward the shopping mall’s monitoring room.
Minutes later, the footage of the clothing store began to play on the large screen.
Marco’s eyes widened as he watched the footage unfold. He saw Marina’s harsh treatment of Loraine, heard her cruel words, calling Loraine a “dog.”
It hit him like a ton of bricks. Loraine had endured so much from his family, and he had never noticed.
