Chapter 61
“I don’t care about you or your so-called man. If you hadn’t shown up in front of me, I wouldn’t have bothered speaking to you,” Loraine said coldly. “You’re delusional, Keely. Seek help.”
Keely snorted, her eyes flashing with rage. “Do you take me for a fool, Loraine? I know you want Marco. Keep your eyes off my man. I’m the only woman who deserves him!”
Loraine smirked, the tension in her posture sharp as she took a step closer. “Keely, don’t you get it? You’re still stuck playing the role of the mistress, even though I’ve divorced that scum.” She let out a dark laugh. “How pathetic.”
The words hit Keely like a slap. She remembered the whispers, the accusations about being a mistress and a home-wrecker. The simmering resentment inside her reignited, anger mixing with old wounds.
“Loraine, you bitch!” she shrieked, her face contorting with fury. “It’s all your fault! My life would be perfect if you just disappeared!”
Before Loraine could react, Keely lunged at her, but Loraine deftly sidestepped the attack.
In the blink of an eye, the situation took a turn. As Keely tried to retract her hands, she lost her balance and stumbled backward, her body pitching toward the stairs. The sound of her body hitting the floor was deafening.
The hall fell into stunned silence, followed by a chorus of gasps.
“Ah! Someone fell down the stairs!”
“It’s Keely Haywood!”
The commotion drew Marco’s attention, and he rushed forward, his face clouded with concern as he caught Keely in his arms.
“Marco, it hurts…” Keely’s voice trembled, her red eyes glistening with fake tears.
“What happened?” Marco asked, his tone sharp with worry as he held her close.
Keely looked up the stairs, then quickly averted her gaze, lowering her eyes as though ashamed. “I tried to apologize to Loraine… but it seems she doesn’t want to forgive me. It’s my fault. I understand she’s still upset with me. Please don’t blame her. I’m fine.”
Her words dripped with innocence, but the underlying implication was clear: she was subtly accusing Loraine of pushing her down the stairs. Yet, no one could prove anything, and with Keely’s feigned meekness, it seemed as if she was trying to shift the blame onto Loraine.
