Chapter 89
Loraine opened the door of the Bugatti Veyron and slid inside. She waved enthusiastically at Jennie, calling out, “Jennie, come here! I’ll take you for a ride!”
“Yeah! You’re amazing, Lorrie!” Jennie exclaimed, practically bounding over to join her in the car.
With a roar of the engine, the silvery blue Bugatti Veyron shot forward, the tires screeching as they tore through the street. Without hesitation, the car sped straight through a large puddle, sending a massive splash of muddy water high into the air.
“Loraine, be careful!” Slater shouted, his face contorting with frustration. “Don’t get my car dirty!”
But it was too late. As Loraine and Jennie zoomed past, the splash of mud hit Slater full force, leaving him drenched. Looking in the rearview mirror, Jennie burst into laughter as she saw Slater standing by the side of the road, utterly covered in mud.
Her joyous laughter faded as the car sped away, leaving Slater standing there, his pride buried beneath the mess.
Marco stood still, watching the scene unfold. A deep sense of realization washed over him. He had just witnessed a side of Loraine he never knew existed. How many secrets did she keep?
Architectural design, car racing… How could someone from a simple country background know so much? His mind raced as he wondered what else Loraine had hidden.
With a frown, Marco opened the door of his car. It was time to investigate his ex-wife. He needed answers.
Just as Marco was about to drive away, Slater sprinted over, calling after him. “Marco, your ex-wife just swindled my precious car! You have to fix this!”
Marco ignored him, casting a brief sidelong glance at Jimmie, who stood by, clearly entertained by the spectacle. Marco’s look sent a shiver down Jimmie’s spine, prompting him to quickly climb into his own car.
Slater, still furious, jogged toward Marco’s car, only to hear the distinct sound of the door locking with a click. He froze, his hand still reaching for the handle.
“Bro, what are you doing?” Slater shouted, banging on the window. “I just lost my car! Why won’t you drive me home?”
