Chapter 77
Klein Moore surveyed the room, where reporters and media personnel waited in anticipation for the announcement. He cleared his throat, his voice resonating across the room.
“The winner of the smart city project is Universe Group!”
The room erupted into chaos.
“What?!”
“Did I hear that right? That’s unbelievable! Universe Group won the bid? Shouldn’t it be Bryant Group?”
“Universe Group? How could this be? Something doesn’t add up…”
Even Jolie was stunned. “What? Loraine… We won the bid?” She grabbed Loraine’s hands, her voice trembling, unable to process the shock.
Loraine exhaled a relieved breath, her face lighting up with a triumphant smile. “Yes, we won.”
Meanwhile, the Bryant Group members looked visibly shattered.
Nichol, in particular, was beside himself. He clutched his chest, struggling to keep his composure.
“Wait! We won’t accept this result!” he shouted, standing abruptly. “Bryant Group has the best intelligence technology in the country, and it meets global standards. We have unparalleled technology to build the smart city. Why on earth would you choose Universe Group’s plan over ours? Something is wrong here. I can’t trust this decision!”
The crowd buzzed with confusion, murmuring amongst themselves. Most couldn’t believe Universe Group had actually won over the powerhouse that was Bryant Group.
But then Loraine stood up, commanding the room’s attention.
“I’ll admit, Bryant Group’s technology is superior to ours in many ways,” she began, her voice steady and calm. “But when it comes to urban construction, we can’t rely solely on technology. It has to be user-friendly, especially for the elderly, who aren’t always familiar with the latest tech.”
She turned toward Nichol, her gaze sharp. “Did you ever consider how the older population would adapt to your technology when you drafted your plan?”
Nichol was momentarily speechless, caught off guard by her pointed question.
The room fell into an expectant silence, everyone looking between Loraine and Nichol, waiting for a response.
Just then, the sound of applause broke the tension. It was Klein, the person in charge of the project, standing and clapping with pride.
