Chapter 58
Loraine wasn’t at all shaken by Keely’s mockery. She remained as composed as ever.
Marco, however, frowned. While he didn’t believe Loraine had won the project by sheer luck, he still harbored doubts about her abilities. After a moment of thought, he spoke up cautiously.
“Loraine, I recently heard that the construction team for a children’s park purchased a large quantity of newly-introduced building materials. Is this the same project you’re working on? It might interest you to know that these materials haven’t been tested or proven reliable yet. Don’t you think it’s a bit risky to use them for construction now? Can you guarantee the safety of the structure once it’s completed?”
Loraine answered confidently, “Must we always stick to the old methods? How will the public get to know about new materials if no one dares to use them? As for safety, I’ll assure you that this new type of foam concrete has many advantages…”
Before she could finish, Keely cut her off.
“Foam concrete?” Keely scoffed, her voice rising. “How can you possibly use foam as a building material? You’re using substandard materials just to cut costs. How heartless and careless can you be? What if the building collapses and children get hurt or die?”
Keely was determined to paint Loraine as reckless and irresponsible, convinced she had the upper hand. But Marco, standing beside her, could no longer tolerate her ignorance.
“Enough!” Marco snapped coldly. “If you don’t understand what we’re talking about, just keep quiet!”
Keely’s jaw dropped, her eyes wide with confusion.
Did she make a mistake? Why was Marco shutting her down when all she’d done was try to mock Loraine?
Loraine couldn’t help but chuckle, her amusement barely hidden as she looked at the ignorant Keely in front of her.
“Foam concrete isn’t entirely made of foam,” Loraine explained, her tone calm and composed. “It’s a cement-based slurry that contains cement, coal ash, stone powder, and a small amount of foam, all mixed together using advanced mechanical technology. A pumping system is used for construction. The foam material has numerous benefits—it’s durable, highly resistant to water and heat, and can even absorb shock. Research has shown that it’s more solid than reinforced concrete, which makes it perfect for the amusement park project.”
As Loraine finished explaining, the guests—many of whom worked in construction—started to realize just how misguided Keely had been.
“It’s funny,” one guest muttered, “that a so-called architectural design graduate doesn’t even know the basics of the profession. How dare she claim to be an expert?”
“Yeah, she’s ignorant and arrogant,” another added.
“Keely mocked Loraine for not going to college, but it turns out Loraine knows more than she does. What a joke.”
Keely’s face instantly flushed with embarrassment as the laughter and ridicule from all directions hit her. She had made a fool of herself in front of everyone.
But Loraine wasn’t done yet. She cast a final glance at Keely, a smirk curling at the corner of her lips.
