Chapter 62
Loraine stood at the top of the stairs, her expression cold and unbothered. The indifference in her gaze stung, and Marco felt the bitter taste of frustration rise in his chest.
Despite the hurt, he pressed on, his voice tinged with urgency. “Loraine, did you push Keely down?” His question was blunt—he just wanted to hear her side of the story.
But in Loraine’s ears, it sounded like an accusation. Her pulse quickened, and the events of the past flashed before her eyes. The memory of that fateful day when Keely had stabbed herself to frame Loraine resurfaced. Back then, Marco hadn’t believed her. He had sided with Keely, and when Marina had wanted to take her kidney for Keely, Marco had allowed it to happen. The pain of that betrayal still burned deep within her.
How desperate she had been then. She had sacrificed everything for him, but it seemed he had done nothing but make her life a living hell.
That version of Loraine—the one who had been broken by Marco—was gone. The new Loraine had learned from those scars. She was no longer a pushover.
Despite the curious glances of the guests, Loraine descended the stairs with measured grace. The crowd parted instinctively, some with fear in their eyes.
Cayson, however, walked toward her without hesitation, his face soft with concern.
“Lorrie, are you okay?” His voice was gentle, and in that moment, Loraine felt a warmth in her chest. It was a reminder that, at last, she had someone who would stand by her, no matter what.
Loraine met his gaze, offering a small smile. “Don’t worry. I’m fine.”
But Marco was seething, the fire in his chest igniting further when Loraine ignored him completely and spoke to Cayson instead.
“Loraine!” His voice rang out, sharp and demanding. “Answer my question!”
Loraine turned her eyes to Marco, her lips curling into a sneer. “This isn’t the first time you’ve accused me without listening to my side of the story, Marco,” she said, her voice dripping with contempt. “And it won’t be the last.”
