Chapter 92
Just then, a waiter arrived at their table, holding a large bouquet of roses, interrupting their conversation. Loraine’s eyes widened in surprise.
“I’m sorry, I think you’ve come to the wrong table,” she said, unsure what to make of the sudden delivery.
“No, he didn’t,” Cayson replied smoothly, taking the bouquet and handing it to her. “Lorrie, this is for you.”
Loraine’s brows furrowed as she stared at the bright red roses before her. Her mind raced, and she couldn’t quite understand what was going on. The gesture seemed far too romantic. People typically sent red roses to those they loved, not as a casual gift between friends.
Suddenly, Loraine remembered her father mentioning that he wanted to match her with Cayson. She quickly shook her head, dismissing the thought. “Cayson, I know you’ve shared a good relationship with my grandfather, and I’m grateful for everything you’ve done for him over the past three years. But you don’t need to pursue me just because he wished us to be together.”
Cayson’s heart sank, and disappointment clouded his face as he listened to Loraine’s words. It was clear she was oblivious to the feelings he had held for her since they were children. He had hoped that now, after her divorce from Marco, she might finally see him in a different light. He didn’t want to give up, but he knew he had to be patient.
Just as Cayson gathered the courage to speak, his phone rang. He answered the call reluctantly, his heart still heavy with unspoken words.
“What?” His face drained of color as he heard the news. “Lorrie, bad news! Marco’s mother has sent you a lawyer’s letter!”
Loraine’s hand trembled as Cayson passed her the letter.
The letter read:
Lawyer’s Letter
To Loraine Torres:
As per the law, our company has accepted the commission from Laura Bryant. As requested by the client, we kindly ask you to return the documents you have stolen from the Bryant family and withdraw your application for the smart city project. Otherwise, we may be forced to press charges.
Loraine’s eyes widened as she processed the shocking words on the page. She felt the blood drain from her face.
The letter quickly made its way onto the internet, igniting a firestorm of reactions.
“It turns out this is the truth! I knew it! Loraine is young, and there’s no way she could win such a big project on her own, no matter her talent. She must have used underhanded means to steal it from Marco. What a cunning woman!”
“Maybe this isn’t the truth, though. Loraine could still turn the tables. I’m not choosing sides yet.”
“How can Loraine turn the tables? She’s Marco’s ex-wife. His mother released the lawyer’s letter for everyone to see. That proves she has the evidence.”
Loraine stared at the screen, her heart racing. How had things gotten so out of hand so quickly?
