Chapter 29
Carl knocked on the door and entered, holding a phone in his hand.
“Mr. Bryant, your sister called,” he said, his voice cautious.
Marco frowned deeply, irritation evident on his face. “What’s the matter? Is it really that urgent?”
Carl spoke in a lower tone, clearly nervous. “She said she was bullied at a shopping mall and asked for your help immediately.”
Marco’s cold, piercing gaze turned to Carl, making the latter shrink back slightly. “Carl, are you too idle lately?”
To Marco, this seemed trivial. Why had Carl interrupted a crucial meeting over something like this?
Carl stammered, clearly panicked. “Mr. Bryant, she said… she said your ex-wife slapped her.”
Carl’s eyes flicked nervously to Marco’s face as he spoke, noting the growing displeasure there. He could already tell his boss wasn’t pleased, and he quickly bit his lower lip, afraid to say more.
Marco’s impatience was evident. “What else?”
Carl hurriedly added, “Your ex-wife is with Cayson Benton, the CEO of Universe Group. They’re shopping together right now!”
At this, Marco’s eyes flashed with displeasure. Loraine was with Cayson? His jaw clenched as anger simmered inside him.
Without another word, Marco stood up abruptly. “The meeting is suspended. Get the car ready.”
It took Marco only a few minutes to arrive at the shopping mall. As soon as he stepped out of the car, Marina rushed toward him, her face lighting up with relief.
“Thank goodness you’re here!” she exclaimed, her eyes welling with fake tears. “I knew you still care about me!”
She turned her face sideways to show him her red cheek, the slap mark still visible. “Look, Loraine slapped me. It hurts so much! You have to help me get back at her.”
Marco’s irritation grew. The sight of Marina’s tears only annoyed him more. He was already exhausted by the drama, but he had to deal with it.
Just as he was about to respond, Loraine and Cayson emerged from the shopping mall together. Marina immediately pointed at them, her voice shrill with accusation.
“Look! I wasn’t lying! Those two are dating!”
Marco’s gaze followed her finger, his eyes narrowing as he looked at the pair.
