“Mr. Bryant, thank you for attending the press conference,” the representative said with a confident smile. “Rest assured, we are professional, and we promise you that Bryant Group will secure the smart city project this time.”
He glanced defiantly at the seat allocated for Universe Group. “Look, Universe Group must have given up. A new female designer is now in charge of their project.”
Jolie’s temper flared at his words. “What did you say?”
Before she could react further, Loraine stopped her with a calm hand on her arm.
“Ignore him. The best design will win the bid, not someone with a sharp tongue,” Loraine replied confidently, her voice firm and unbothered. “After all, no one knows who will get this project.”
“Oh, please,” Nichol sneered. “Stop pretending.”
Just as the two companies were on the verge of an all-out verbal battle, Marco suddenly stood up and made his way toward Loraine. He slid his hands into his pockets and looked her straight in the eyes.
“Loraine,” he began, his voice steady and serious, “I meant what I said the other day. If you want this project, you’re welcome to join Bryant Group anytime.”
The room fell silent, and all eyes turned to the two of them, stunned by Marco’s bold statement—especially Nichol, who was utterly confused.
They had all assumed Marco and Loraine’s relationship was long over. Why would he extend such an offer to her? Was he trying to poach Loraine from Universe Group, his ex-wife now working with his competitor?
“Don’t you think it’s a little premature to say that, Mr. Bryant?” Loraine asked calmly, her gaze steady as she met his.
Marco’s expression didn’t waver as he replied, “I’ll honor my promise, no matter what the outcome is.” He held her gaze for a beat longer before turning and walking back to his seat.
Loraine didn’t spare him a glance. Meanwhile, the other managers in the room were already approaching Marco, eager to hand him their business cards. It was clear they all thought Bryant Group had already won the project. Most of them were here just to flatter Marco and ensure a potential collaboration with his company.
No one, it seemed, believed that Universe Group had a chance.
Half an hour later…
The press conference officially began. Klein Moore, the official in charge of the government project, took the stage.
