Chapter 74
Before Eliza could sit down, Loraine’s calm voice cut through the air.
“Eliza, you don’t need to attend this meeting.”
Eliza, who had been planning to stir up trouble, frowned in confusion. She slammed the documents onto the table, her voice rising. “Why?”
“Because I’ve removed you from the team.”
“Loraine Torres! How dare you kick me off the project?” Eliza’s eyes widened with disbelief. “I get it now. You think I’m a threat to you because I almost became the director. You’re targeting me, using your position to push me down because of some grudge you have!”
Eliza was convinced that was the real reason behind Loraine’s decision.
She cleared her throat dramatically, her voice gaining strength as she continued, “As you can all see, Loraine has been driving out the long-time staff since she took over as the new director. I’ve worked tirelessly and given everything to this project, yet now she’s trying to fire me! I’m sure now you all understand what kind of person she is.”
Loraine didn’t even flinch. She crossed her arms and stared at Eliza with an unreadable expression.
Once Eliza had finished, Loraine coolly retrieved the design sketches Eliza had submitted.
“Is this what you call hard work?” Loraine asked, her voice steady. “This doesn’t show dedication to the project. Even a beginner wouldn’t make these kinds of mistakes. You’ve been making one error after another. It’s obvious your focus is somewhere else.”
Eliza pouted, her confidence unshaken. “It’s just a small mistake. I can fix it. To err is human, right? I’m sure even you’ve made mistakes before. Can you honestly guarantee you’ve never made a mistake in your entire life?”
Loraine raised an eyebrow, her gaze sharp. “I, too, make mistakes. Nobody’s perfect. But unintentional mistakes can be forgiven. What you’ve done, though, is intentional.”
Eliza’s heart skipped a beat. “What do you mean?”
Loraine pointed to the monitor, where the comparison of Eliza’s original and revised records was clearly displayed.
“Jolie gave you this document,” Loraine said firmly, indicating the data on the screen. “The figures were correct at first, but you altered them with the wrong ones before submitting. Don’t tell me this was a mistake. You’ve done this repeatedly. It’s clear you’ve been doing it on purpose. Don’t even try to deny it.”
Eliza’s face drained of color. Her lips trembled, and she couldn’t bring herself to speak. The evidence was undeniable.
Loraine’s gaze hardened as she spoke again, her voice chilling. “Eliza, if you choose to resign quietly and leave without causing a scene, I won’t hold you accountable. But if you choose to stay at Universe Group, I’ll have no choice but to expose everything you’ve done.”
