Chapter 69
“Eliza’s words carried weight, and the enthusiasm in the room quickly dissipated. She wasn’t wrong—Bryant Group had grown even more formidable since Marco took charge. With the best designers in the world and an elite scientific research team, what chance did they have of winning?”
The mood in the conference room deflated as everyone absorbed Eliza’s pessimistic tone.
Eliza secretly reveled in the fact that her harsh words had crushed the team’s morale. She hated Loraine’s rise to power and was determined to sabotage her every move.
But Eliza’s moment of satisfaction was short-lived.
Loraine’s voice cut through the silence. “Eliza, if you lack the potential, perhaps you should consider stepping aside,” she said, her tone cool and direct. “Stop discouraging the team.”
Eliza’s face flushed with humiliation at the sudden rebuke. “What do you mean by that?” she snapped.
Loraine ignored her, her gaze sweeping over the other employees in the room.
“I’ll admit that Bryant Group is a formidable competitor, but Universe Group is no slouch either. We are just as capable. Why should we fear Bryant Group? In this industry, you either move forward or get left behind. If you’re afraid of competition, you’ll never grow. We have the skills, the drive, and the potential to win this project. And if we do, there will be bonuses and other rewards for all of you. Don’t you want that?”
Loraine’s words reignited the team’s excitement.
“Well said, Loraine!” one colleague said, nodding in agreement.
“That’s right! Loraine has already delivered two big projects: the resort and the children’s park. I believe we can take on Bryant Group. Let’s trust her!”
“I’m in. Let’s do this for the bonus!” someone else chimed in.
Loraine’s speech was a morale booster, and the atmosphere in the room shifted.
Eliza’s face twisted in frustration as she watched her colleagues rally behind Loraine. “It’s easy to talk big about success. Let’s see how confident you all are after we fail.”
But no one paid her any attention. The room was now buzzing with renewed energy, and everyone was focused on the task at hand.
Loraine threw herself into the work with even more determination. She worked tirelessly, putting in late hours and pushing herself to the limit to ensure the team was ready for the competition.
One evening, as she was buried in her work, her phone rang. It was Rowan.
“Lorrie, I heard you’re aiming to win the smart city project. Why didn’t you tell me sooner? I’ve got some friends I can introduce you to—people who can help you level the playing field against Bryant Group,” Rowan said, his voice filled with genuine concern.
He didn’t hesitate to offer his help, knowing this was a significant opportunity for his niece.
