Chapter 88
“Marco, you can’t betray your friend for your ex-wife!” Slater shouted, his voice tinged with panic as he tried to salvage his pride.
Marco fixed him with a cold, unwavering stare. “Slater, you lost the race. You’re no match for Loraine when it comes to racing.”
Slater faltered, unable to respond. He knew deep down his driving skills paled in comparison to Loraine’s. But he was too proud to admit defeat. “But… it was a tie!” he protested, his voice shaking.
“Who said it was a tie?” Loraine’s voice was sharp as she stepped forward, pulling a small device from the dashboard of her car. She tossed it at Slater without a second thought. “Take a good look at it. I won.”
Slater hesitated but turned on the recorder, which clearly showed Loraine’s car crossing the finish line ahead of Marco’s. She had maintained her lead the entire time, never allowing Marco to surpass her.
Slater’s face contorted in disbelief. “How is that possible?” he muttered, watching the footage again and again, his frustration growing. There was no denying it now—Loraine had won.
Loraine’s expression was calm as she extended her hand toward him. “Can I have the car keys now?”
Slater’s jaw tightened as he hesitated, his eyes darting between Loraine and Marco. “Surely the future heir of Zepto Group wouldn’t deceive a simple country girl like me?” he sneered, attempting to hold onto some semblance of control.
Loraine’s gaze never wavered. “Don’t waste my time,” she replied coolly.
Slater seethed but, realizing he had no other option, handed over the keys with a defeated sigh. “Fine. I won’t go back on my word.”
He paused for a moment, still trying to hold onto his pride, and then muttered, “My car is a limited edition Bugatti Veyron. If it weren’t for me, people like you might never even see one. Don’t forget to get it waxed every fortnight and don’t park it in open lots. If it rains, the engine’s ruined…”
Loraine cut him off, her patience wearing thin. “Come on,” she said impatiently, snatching the keys from his hand. “Stop stalling.”
