Chapter 30
Marco’s gaze locked onto Loraine as she walked past him, her presence commanding attention. She was wearing a sleek, brand-new suit that fit her perfectly, accentuating her curves and giving off an elegant yet domineering aura. The sight of her so close to Cayson only fueled his anger. They looked like a perfect couple, and the jealousy that surged through Marco was blinding. It felt as if someone had ripped away his most prized possession.
Fury boiled inside him as he stood there, rooted to the spot. The sight of them together felt like a betrayal, like a slap in the face. His chest tightened with frustration.
Loraine, however, didn’t even glance his way. She ignored him completely, continuing to walk past him with Cayson at her side.
“Wait!” Marco’s voice broke through the tension.
He reached out and grabbed her arm, pulling her back roughly.
Loraine stopped and turned, her sharp gaze meeting his. She shook off his hand with practiced ease, the motion almost dismissive.
“What are you doing?” she asked coolly, her voice laced with contempt.
The sting of her indifference hit Marco like a punch to the gut. She didn’t care about him anymore. She treated him like dirt, like he meant nothing to her. The realization twisted painfully in his chest. Why did she hate him so much?
Marco’s hand dropped awkwardly at his side, a mix of frustration and pain flashing across his face. He shot a glance at Cayson, who stood behind Loraine, his presence only amplifying Marco’s unease.
“What are you two doing together?” Marco demanded, his voice harsh. “Was the recent scandal not enough?”
Loraine raised an eyebrow at his tone, a smirk tugging at the corner of her lips. The sarcasm in her next words made Marco’s blood boil.
“Marco,” she said, her voice dripping with disdain. “Do you really need me to remind you who you are? You’re just my ex-husband. We’re no longer married, so I can go out with whoever I like. Stay out of my business.”
Her words struck him like a slap, and a lump formed in his throat. The indifference in her eyes was something he couldn’t ignore. She wanted nothing to do with him. And the pain of that truth sank deeper than he could’ve imagined.
“I have every right to question you, Loraine,” he retorted, his voice hoarse with a mix of anger and frustration. “You hit my sister!”
Loraine’s gaze shifted to Marina, who stood smugly by, her face twisted in a self-satisfied grin. The sight of her only solidified in Loraine’s mind that Marco wasn’t interested in hearing her side of the story, just like always. He was always quick to believe anyone who pointed the finger at her, never once questioning whether she was in the right.
It had been the same with Keely, and now with Marina.
But Loraine had grown past the point of being heartbroken over Marco’s actions. He was a stranger to her now. The man she had once loved was nothing but a troublesome memory.
A cold smile stretched across her face, her eyes hardening with resolve. “Yes, I hit your sister. If you want to settle scores with me, I’ll be waiting for you,” she said, her voice dripping with finality. “Now, excuse me.”
With that, she turned and walked away, leaving Marco standing there, seething with a mixture of emotions—jealousy, regret, and an overwhelming sense of loss.
