Chapter 67
“Look, Marco,” Loraine said, her voice steady and confident. “I don’t need your charity. I’ll earn everything I want with my own potential.”
Her face seemed to glow in the contrast of the dark night, radiating a strength Marco couldn’t ignore.
He watched her, his breath catching. There was something fierce and captivating about her, so different from the silent woman he had once known. Loraine wasn’t just beautiful—she was fiery, unapologetically herself, and Marco couldn’t tear his eyes away from her.
But then reality hit him.
Loraine was no longer his wife. She didn’t belong to him anymore, and he had no right to stop her.
With that realization sinking in, Marco stood motionless, his heart heavy, as he watched her leave in Cayson’s car. He remained in the cold, staring at the spot where they had been, as the car disappeared from sight.
In the car, Loraine gazed out of the window, lost in thought. She didn’t speak, her silence reflecting her emotions.
Cayson, ever the perceptive one, broke the silence. “Lorrie, the project Marco mentioned earlier—it’s the smart city construction plan for Vagow. It’s the biggest and most important project in the architectural industry this year. The Vagow government plans to build a full-scale smart technology city. It’ll include schools, hospitals, a police station, a fire station, cultural centers, everything…”
Loraine’s expression softened as she listened. “It sounds like a good project,” she mused, her mind already working. “But hasn’t Bryant Group acquired it?”
She pouted, a little disappointed.
Cayson shook his head, his expression more serious. “Not yet. The project is still in the bidding phase. Vagow’s government is holding a public competition for the design plan. Universe Group is also competing for it.”
Loraine’s face lit up. She was glad to hear Marco hadn’t secured the project yet. It meant there was still a chance.
“So we still have a shot at winning this project from Bryant Group?” she asked, her curiosity piqued.
Cayson gave a small, knowing smile but shook his head. “It’s not going to be easy. Bryant Group is tough competition. They’ve got the resources, the experience, and the backing. Their research department is top-notch, and their technology is state-of-the-art. Not to mention, they’ve already worked with Vagow’s government on other smart construction projects. They have the upper hand.”
Loraine’s eyes darkened, her mind already considering the challenge. It wasn’t going to be easy, but she had never been one to shy away from a tough fight.
