Chapter 81
Just before Slater could make his way over to her, the woman turned around.
Slater’s face instantly drained of color, his smile vanishing as quickly as it had appeared.
“What? Loraine?” he muttered in shock.
Marco, hearing Loraine’s name, lifted his head. His heart skipped a beat as his eyes fell on her. For a moment, he wasn’t sure if the beautiful woman before him was really Loraine. During the day, she was the confident, elegant businesswoman, but here, at night, in a stunning red dress with loose brown curls cascading around her face, she was a different woman altogether. The transformation was striking.
Her gaze alone had the power to captivate him.
Jimmie adjusted his glasses, his eyes flicking back and forth between Marco and Loraine. He sighed softly. “I didn’t expect her to be Loraine.”
He noticed Marco, whose mouth was slightly agape, staring at her intently. Teasingly, he nudged him. “Marco, how does it feel? After leaving you, your ex-wife has not only become successful but now she’s as charming as ever. Even Slater here is clearly taken with her. Do you regret it?”
Regret?
The word hit Marco like a punch to the gut. He was taken aback, the weight of Jimmie’s words settling in. For a moment, he couldn’t deny the turmoil in his chest.
“Nonsense!” Slater snapped, his voice filled with irritation. “When did I say I was fascinated by her?”
Meanwhile, Loraine was lost in the music, dancing freely on the floor. Each step seemed to release the pent-up emotions she had been carrying, and she felt a sense of pure joy.
But it wasn’t long before a man in an odd outfit approached her, interrupting her moment.
“Hey, beautiful. I feel like I’ve seen you somewhere. Were you on TV recently?” he asked, a smirk playing on his lips.
Loraine didn’t respond. She simply grabbed Jennie’s hand, who was still caught up in the rhythm of the dance, and pulled her away to a quieter spot to rest.
As they settled down, a familiar voice reached her ears. “Loraine, you’re in the limelight now. Are you happy?”
