Chapter 75
“If that happens, you won’t be able to work at any company,” Loraine warned coldly.
Eliza’s throat went dry, and she stared at Loraine in horror, struggling to believe that Loraine would be ruthless enough to destroy her career.
“Fine! You win! I’ll quit!” Eliza spat through gritted teeth, her voice shaking with fury.
She squirmed uncomfortably as everyone in the room looked at her with disdain. She couldn’t stand the humiliation another moment. Without another word, she packed up her things and stormed out of the company.
The entire incident left an indelible mark on the office. Fear and respect for Loraine spread like wildfire. No one dared slack off. The team worked tirelessly, day and night, to finish the design plan. They managed to submit it before the bidding deadline closed.
One week later…
A press conference was scheduled to announce the results of the bidding, and representatives from all competing companies were in attendance.
As Loraine and Jolie entered, they immediately spotted Marco walking in with his assistant.
Jolie’s eyes widened in surprise. “It’s Marco Bryant! Why is he here in person?”
Loraine glanced at him briefly, her expression indifferent. “It doesn’t matter.”
“That’s strange,” Jolie said, her brow furrowing. “Marco rarely shows up at events like this. Why today?” She paused, a realization dawning on her, and her voice dropped to a whisper. “Oh my God, Loraine! Has he come for you?”
Loraine rolled her eyes and shook her head. “Jolie, you’re overthinking it. The press conference is about to begin. Let’s go inside.”
Jolie fell silent, but her worry was palpable. She glanced at Loraine, a thousand thoughts running through her mind. She had seen Marco and Loraine together before—at the bar, when he had held her hand with such intensity. The way he looked at Loraine, it was clear he hadn’t given up on her.
As Loraine entered the conference hall, she noticed almost everyone had already arrived.
Marco was seated in the exclusive section designated for Bryant Group, his face set in a grim expression. Beside him sat Nichol Shaw, the project manager, exuding quiet confidence.
