Chapter 5
The bodyguards immediately surrounded Loraine, holding her arms and legs firmly, their grip unyielding.
“Get off me!” she shouted, her voice laced with fury. “You have no right to do this!”
But no matter how much Loraine struggled, they didn’t loosen their hold. In her panic, she turned desperately toward her husband. “Marco!”
She hoped—no, needed—him to step in, to stop this madness, but Marco remained frozen. His face was blank, his eyes distant, as if he didn’t even see her. He just stood there, silently watching, approving of Marina’s orders.
Loraine’s heart shattered. She had held on to the hope that maybe, just maybe, there was still something between them. But now, with the coldness in his eyes, she knew. It was over.
Any love she had for Marco evaporated in that instant.
This marriage had been nothing more than a one-woman show, from beginning to end. Marco didn’t love her. He never had. He would believe anything Keely said, while dismissing every word that came from her.
The difference between true love and the absence of it had never been clearer.
Loraine’s fury boiled over, and with one final burst of strength, she broke free from the bodyguards’ grip. She shoved past them, charging toward the operating room.
“I’ll show you how serious Keely’s injuries really are!” Loraine’s heart hammered in her chest as she stormed inside.
To her surprise, Keely was lying on the operating table, but she wasn’t on the verge of death like Marco had claimed. The woman was awake, pale, but otherwise unharmed. She didn’t appear as though she had suffered any life-threatening injury at all.
Loraine stopped in her tracks, a cold laugh escaping her lips. “Is this the serious injury you were talking about, Marco?”
Marco, following closely behind her, frowned as he looked past her, taking in the sight of Keely lying there. But his expression was more of frustration than concern.
“Marco, why is she here? I’m so scared…” Keely whimpered, her voice trembling, her eyes wide with false innocence as she feigned fear.
Marco didn’t have time to process the situation. He immediately reached out to stop Loraine, his voice low and sharp. “Loraine, enough.”
But Loraine was beyond caring what he had to say. Her entire world had just crumbled, and she wasn’t going to let this moment slip by.
Without a second thought, she walked past Marco, her gaze locked on Keely, and slapped the woman hard across the face.
Clap!
The sound of the slap rang out sharply through the sterile room, and the air felt thick with tension.
