Chapter 6
Keely’s face turned an angry red, quickly swelling where Loraine’s slap had landed. Before she could even react, Loraine yanked off Keely’s surgical gown.
There were no signs of any serious injury—just a few bruises here and there.
Marco’s eyes darkened in fury.
Loraine had already suspected it: Keely had tried to fake an injury, but she hadn’t been willing to actually hurt herself too badly. After all, she had fallen on top of Loraine. There was no way she could have sustained any major damage from that.
“What the hell is going on?” Marco’s voice was cold, his gaze now narrowing on Keely. He wasn’t an idiot. He could tell something was off with her injury.
Keely’s face drained of color as she scrambled to cover her lie. “I… I don’t know either. I’ve been in a coma ever since Loraine pushed me down the stairs. I just woke up! What kidney? The doctor must have made a mistake!”
Loraine laughed bitterly, her voice thick with sarcasm. “Wow, what a convenient mistake! If I hadn’t exposed your little trick, I would’ve been the one losing a kidney!”
Loraine’s eyes burned with fury as she glared at Keely.
“Loraine, you’re lying!” Keely snapped, her gaze darting desperately toward Marco. “Don’t trust her, Marco! It was Loraine who pushed me!”
Marco turned toward her, his eyes sharp and intense, and Keely flinched, trembling under his gaze.
He shifted his attention back to Loraine, his face a mix of frustration and uncertainty. “I’ll find out the truth and give you an explanation. You’ll be compensated for this, whatever you want.”
But Loraine wasn’t listening. The words seemed hollow, empty to her now.
Every time she had hoped for something from him, Marco had disappointed her. His empty promises of “compensation” meant nothing anymore.
“No need,” she muttered bitterly, her voice barely a whisper.
Her gaze met Marco’s for the last time, and the cold indifference she saw there only solidified her resolve.
“What I want… is a divorce,” she said, each word final, heavy with meaning.
Marco froze, his eyes widening in shock. For the first time in three years, he was actually trying to understand what was happening in her mind. But it was too late.
Loraine didn’t care anymore.
With one last glance at the man she had once loved, she turned away, walking out of the hospital room without a single backward glance.
The moment she stepped outside, the weakness hit her. Her body seemed to falter under the weight of the decision she had just made, and she struggled to maintain her balance, the world around her spinning in a blur.
