Chapter 98
“I’m not one to overlook bad behavior just because it comes from my own family. If you make a mistake, you will face consequences, no matter who you are. As for the damages—physical or mental—the victim, Loraine, will be compensated,” Marco’s voice was firm, leaving no room for doubt.
Public opinion quickly shifted in a new direction.
“I never would have guessed that Marina was the thief, not Loraine!”
“I feel so bad for Loraine. She’s been unjustly accused of so many things. First, the affair, and now this theft. I wouldn’t be surprised if her ex-husband’s family is targeting her!”
“Something feels off here. Marco and Loraine were already divorced, right? It’s strange that he’s still helping her after his mother attacked her.”
“You’re right. I didn’t think about that!”
The Internet exploded with these thoughts, rapidly going viral.
Meanwhile, the Torres Family convened to discuss the fallout.
Wesley spoke with pride. “Lorrie, people are defending you now.”
Loraine let out a relieved breath. “Thank you so much, Uncle Wesley.”
Wesley grinned but quickly added, “Lorrie, I’m your uncle. You don’t need to thank me.”
Loraine giggled and stuck her tongue out at him. “Sorry, Uncle. I’ll try to remember next time.”
For a moment, Wesley’s smile faded as a thought crossed his mind. “But why is Marco defending Lorrie? What’s his game?”
Rowan scoffed, his expression hardening. “If he pulls any more shady moves, we’ll sue him!”
Aldo, on the other hand, hissed in anger. “It doesn’t matter now. Even if Marco’s trying to help Lorrie, it’s too late. He’s already hurt my granddaughter too much. There’s nothing he can do to fix what he did to her!”
Loraine silently read Bryant Group’s official statement and smiled softly.
“He’s not trying to help me,” she said, her voice calm. “He’s just protecting his own image—and that of Bryant Group. It’s part of his job as CEO. But it would be different if the person he truly cared about was involved in all this.”
Loraine believed that Keely was the one Marco truly held close. If Keely had been the one who stole the documents, Marco would have defended her without hesitation.
Wesley shared a tidbit of information he’d gotten from his subordinate.
